About The Position

Utilizes the nursing process to develop a plan of nursing care. Coordinates and delivers care to surgical, special procedure, and pain clinic patients of all ages. Assists patients in the admission, pre and postsurgical care including recovery room and discharge of patients. The RN assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, directing, supervising, evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the Perioperative setting.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing.
  • The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.
  • 1 - 2 years relevant experience
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) Upon Hire
  • Nevada Registered Nurse (RN) Within 3 months of hire into job
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Upon hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Within 3 months of hire into job
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification) Within 3 months of hire into job
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR)/EPIC experience preferred.
  • Leadership ability
  • Previous PACU, ICU, or ER experience

Responsibilities

  • Establishes nursing diagnoses.
  • Provides health education, pre and post-op procedural teaching and discharge instructions to patients and significant others.
  • Administers and evaluates pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens.
  • Establishes priorities and makes ethically-sound decisions to ensure safe patient care.
  • Assists the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration.
  • Responds to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient’s health status.
  • Documents patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and collaboration of patient care.
  • Manages follow-up care.
  • Collaborates with other health care professionals.
  • Acts as a resource for others.
  • Serves as a mentor for other nurses.
  • Participates in continuing education and achieving/maintaining certification/competencies.
  • Participates in data collection for research and using scientific findings to improve patient outcomes.
  • Monitors performance by developing and participating in performance improvement activities.
  • Participates as an active member in professional organizations.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
