University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Adult Vascular Access Team/SWOT. This role involves assessing patients' nursing care needs, evaluating the effectiveness of care, and integrating nursing theory and research into practice. The nurse will provide leadership to the nursing team to maintain patient care standards. Specific functions include acting as a clinical nurse expert for Adult Vascular Access and the SWOT Team, performing clinical assignments across all adult divisions to facilitate patient throughput, provide short-term critical care monitoring, assist with admitting patients, and serving as a resource and leader for the patient care team. The role requires interfacing with administrative and clinical staff, physicians, and patients/families to ensure appropriate and timely vascular access device placement. Training in ultrasound technology for PIV, Midline, and PICC placement will be provided. The nurse may also assist with short-term staffing needs on adult inpatient units, the Emergency Department (ED), and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), typically for no more than two hours per assignment. Responsibilities include assisting with admissions and discharges during high-volume periods, assisting the ED during influxes of patient admits, transporting critically ill patients requiring medication titration or mechanical ventilation, and accompanying patients to tests and procedures. The nurse will serve as a resource during emergency responses, identify critical changes in patient status, and act as an expert resource for staff regarding critical care devices and new initiatives.
