About The Position

Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), a research institute of Mercer University, provides high quality engineering, scientific, and technical support services to both government and private industry customers. We are currently recruiting for a Staff Network Systems Administrator to support the Network Systems Directorate. The successful incumbent performs server technical support functions for organizational and program management activities under the supervision of the Manager, Network Systems.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from an accredited institution and 1 year of directly related experience; or an associate’s degree and 2 years of directly related experience or a high school diploma and 4 years of directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated technical experience with windows server computer hardware, operating systems and application software, including Windows Server Operating Systems, Microsoft Application Suites, Microsoft Cloud, and server configurations.
  • Ability to install, repair, and troubleshoot server hardware, software, peripheral devices, disk arrays, and tape libraries.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience performing systems disaster recovery.
  • Service oriented and able to communicate and interface with users, peers, and vendors.
  • Ability to conduct research into server issues and products as required.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Oracle/SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
  • Excellent communication skills to work with cross functional teams
  • Strong passion for software development
  • Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Teams, Adobe Suite

Responsibilities

  • Resolves problems regarding windows server operating systems, application software, and hardware operation.
  • Manages prescribed server disaster recover schemes, system capacity planning, and user data management.
  • Enters commands, conducts server diagnostics, and observes system performance to verify accurate operations and identify errors.
  • Sets up servers and ensures proper installation and configuration of hardware, tape libraries, disk arrays, and operating systems.
  • Manages server and PC system patch update schedules and corrective action.
  • Maintains and performs problem resolution of Windows Active Directory structure.
  • Maintains records of daily support requests to include problems, corrective actions taken, and installation activities.
  • Coordinates hardware or software resolution with vendors for service.
  • Communicates with users and supervisor to establish requirements for problem resolutions, new systems or modifications.
  • Apply system security settings as directed.
  • Responsible for support and execution of other tasks as assigned.
