Staff Mechanical Engineer

GTI Fabrication•Tempe, AZ
•$152,000 - $185,000

About The Position

GTI, a contract manufacturing partner serving renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, and industrial systems customers, is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across complex modular power and industrial systems. The role is a technical authority for mechanical system design, structural and thermal analysis, equipment integration, and troubleshooting, supporting projects from concept through manufacturing, testing, and production. The position focuses on industrial equipment, generator enclosures, fabricated steel structures, equipment skids, and modular systems. It combines hands-on design and engineering calculations with cross-functional problem solving, manufacturing support, technical review, and mentorship. The engineer will help ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, safe, aligned with customer requirements, and suitable for production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably in industrial equipment, power generation, modular systems, or custom manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing and production, including collaboration with fabrication and assembly teams.
  • Strong experience designing fabricated steel structures, industrial enclosures, equipment skids, weldments, or integrated mechanical systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including large assemblies, sheet metal, weldments, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong experience performing mechanical engineering calculations, structural analysis, and FEA.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems, lead design reviews, and mentor engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with generator systems, BESS, modular data centers, or mission-critical power infrastructure.
  • Experience with thermal management, airflow, cooling systems, or fluid system design.
  • Familiarity with ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar engineering analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable ASME, AISC, UL, or related engineering standards.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or FE/EIT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical system architecture and design for complex modular power and industrial systems.
  • Develop and review designs for generator enclosures, structural frames, equipment skids, sheet metal assemblies, weldments, and integrated mechanical systems.
  • Design and integrate generators, cooling systems, fuel systems, piping, exhaust systems, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Perform and review calculations for structural loads, stress, deflection, vibration, fatigue, thermal performance, and fluid systems.
  • Perform and validate FEA for structural frames, welded assemblies, lifting structures, and equipment supports.
  • Establish technical direction for complex or first-of-kind mechanical designs, lead design reviews, and resolve high-level technical issues across projects.
  • Evaluate structural designs for operational, lifting, transportation, wind, seismic, and other applicable loading conditions.
  • Develop mechanical layouts that support equipment integration, service access, thermal management, and manufacturability.
  • Support cooling system design, airflow analysis, heat rejection, and thermal management for generator systems, BESS, and modular infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Electrical and Structural Engineering teams on equipment interfaces, system requirements, and integration challenges.
  • Support mechanical testing, design validation, troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, manufacturing, integration, field service, and customer needs.
  • Work cross-functionally with Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Operations.
  • Support prototype builds, production launches, design changes, and continuous product improvement.
  • Develop and maintain production-ready mechanical drawings, engineering calculations, BOMs, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance on fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, and mechanical integration.
  • Resolve complex manufacturing and product performance issues through engineering analysis and practical design solutions.
  • Mentor Senior and Mechanical Engineers and technically review engineering work.
  • Help establish mechanical engineering standards, calculation methods, design guidelines, documentation practices, and validation methodologies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex customer, certification, manufacturing, and field issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design quality, efficiency, reliability, and repeatability across programs.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match, where applicable.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
  • Sick time in accordance with state and local requirements.
  • Company-paid life insurance and disability coverage.
  • Career advancement opportunities within a rapidly growing organization.
  • Exposure to advanced manufacturing, modular infrastructure, and large-scale industrial projects.
  • Collaborative, fast-paced environment with strong operational and engineering leadership.
