About The Position

Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated person to function as a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in the design of pumps and related mechanical systems supporting Water & Wastewater Treatment processes. This person will work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad, functioning in a staff level engineer capacity and will perform all aspects of design engineering tasks for the assigned systems of responsibility. Strong candidates are expected to have knowledge and experience related to the system design, calculations, specification, and related engineering tasks associated with pumping systems, transient analysis, seals and seal water systems, control valves, air relief systems, and hands on field experience. We are looking for a motivated individual who enjoys working with a team and has an appetite to develop technical expertise to lead mechanical system.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, with a preference for candidates with 8+ years.
  • Experience in developing detailed project drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience in material and component selection for piping system.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for the purpose of sizing pumping equipment.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
  • Follow company and industry design practices in development of designs.
  • Authoring specifications, material selection, and purchasing of pumps and pump related equipment.
  • Develop engineering work products including Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), Mechanical arrangement drawings, and Equipment, Piping, and Valve specifications.
  • Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittents, data, reports, etc., for conformance with B&V criteria.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with and teach other engineers system design.
  • Lead design projects related to pump systems and transient design.
  • Perform quality control (QC) reviews of design documents and deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements and standards.
