Staff Mechanical Design Engineer
About The Position
Nova is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Tech Lead to join a multidisciplinary team focused on product development and R&D. The role contributes to next-generation metrology systems by translating concepts into mechanical designs and rapidly iterating prototypes. It involves collaboration with electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software teams, and taking concepts from prototype through to high-volume consumer product solutions. The engineer owns key subsystem designs from concept through release to manufacturing, including concept development, detailed design and drawings, bills of materials, tolerance analysis, and procurement. The role also involves preparing technical specifications and design documents, analyzing and mitigating risks, conducting design reviews, managing key suppliers, and planning and conducting prototype tests to validate designs. The position offers an annual pay range of $130,000–$200,000, depending on experience.
Requirements
- At least a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 10 years of experience in a semiconductor equipment-related field.
- Expertise in high-vacuum design.
- Experience with precision lens and camera mounting, and X-ray and/or electron-beam optics.
- Good modeling and detailed drawing practices, and understanding of GD&T.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.

- Previous experience with semiconductor capital equipment.
Responsibilities
- Own key subsystem designs from concept through release to manufacturing.
- Develop concepts and produce detailed designs, drawings, bills of materials, tolerance analyses, and procurement plans.
- Understand key requirements and create specifications and other technical design documents.
- Perform risk analysis and mitigate risks through experiments, FEA analysis, or other relevant methods.
- Prepare and conduct design reviews at all phases of design.
- Procure and manage key suppliers.
- Prepare test plans, build prototypes, and conduct or supervise tests to validate designs.
