About The Position

The part-time Lineman Instructor will provide direction and instruction for the Lineman Training Program on MCTC's Rowan Campus. This individual will assist in the teaching of the program's students, ensuring alignment with the KCTCS approved curriculum and the latest industry updates. They will also be responsible for assistance in the recruitment of students by attending networking meeting, holding seats on job-related committees, and attending career fairs for secondary institutions and adults. They will also work with MCTC's Lineman Program Contact to order materials and supplies needed for the program. This position will also build and retain strong employer partnerships through advisory boards, guest instructors, and student employment opportunities after completion of the training. Managing and tracking student placements, maintaining a safe learning environment, and ensuring security of all inventory tools and material for the program is essential as well. This is an in-person position and not eligible for remote. Schedule is Monday through Friday 8-4:30 for 7 weeks per class cohort. Additional sessions as need is present.

Requirements

  • One year certificate or training from a college or technical school
  • 8 or more years of experience
  • Computer skills and the willingness to learn Blackboard (Learning Management System)
  • Must be able and willing to climb the poles
  • Journeyman License/ Class A Lineman
  • Class A CDL License
  • CDL Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement
  • OSHA 10/30 Certified

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of fiber splicing experience
  • Experience using Blackboard LMS
  • Skills in public speaking, effective classroom/team communication, problem solving, evaluations, assess limitations, flexibility, adaptability in student learning styles, interpersonal skills, time management, punctuality, knowledge of safety procedures, and multi-tasking.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for classroom and pole yard instruction to teach students how to climb properly and instilling crucial safety practices while teaching the construction side of electrical distribution as stated in the Lineman course curriculum.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and Procedures.
  • Order, maintain, and track supplies and materials for Lineman class, while staying within the budget. Work with Workforce Solutions staff to submit BUB items.
  • Update and manage Blackboard for APT 158/159 class work and assessments.
  • Delivery of Spring and Fall Lineman classes, with the possibility of additional Summer semester classes.
  • Track, manage, and share with Workforce Solutions staff the student attendance and job placement rates of graduates.
  • Attend and co-coordinate bi-yearly Lineman Advisory Board meetings. Form relationships with employers for job leads for graduates.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
