About The Position

Facilitates language access to the courts and court services for less than English proficient individuals. Provides interpreting and translation services at judicial proceedings. Reviews court work schedules, makes assignments, coordinates interpreters for the Fourth District Court. Under the direction of the Language Access Coordinator, works within the scope of existing policies and procedures to accomplish the goals of the court. Work is complex and moderately difficult. Exercises initiative and judgment to meet the needs of the court and related parties.

Requirements

  • Idaho Court Interpreter Certification for the Spanish language or valid court interpreter certification from a state member of the Consortium for Language Access
  • Must possess and maintain a court interpreter certification recognized by the Idaho Supreme Court
  • Knowledge of Court organization, programs, proceedings, and services
  • Knowledge of proper spelling, punctuation and grammar in both English and Spanish with demonstrated proficiency in proper regional and idiomatic usage
  • Knowledge of interpreter policies, procedures and Code of Ethics
  • Skill in providing precise English to Spanish and Spanish to English translations
  • Skill in the use of data processing systems and other office equipment and machines
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, especially as they may pertain to a Code of Ethics
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with court staff, judges, attorneys, county employees, parties, courthouse agencies and members of the public
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and coordinates per diem interpreters
  • Interprets all types of court proceedings
  • Interprets assignments under for court operations and others as scheduled per coordinator
  • Interprets expert testimony, law enforcement testimony, and lay witness testimony
  • Prepares utilization reports on interpreter use district-wide, and projects future interpreter needs
  • Provides interpreting and translation services at judicial proceedings as well as out-of-court services
  • Translates documents as needed
  • Reviews daily dockets and coordinates with judges, judicial assistants, and court personnel to determine which court and proceedings will requires an interpreter
  • Facilitates communication between the eligible public and county departments
  • Performs related functions as required
