About The Position

The Staff Infrastructure Engineer is a professional with extensive mainframe experience responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing an organization's IT infrastructure. This role involves working with various technologies to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of infrastructure components. The role requires working with internal stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements, supporting Tyson mainframe teams by providing guidance to the Tyson application group, and overseeing service provider system support teams. It also involves developing and supporting policies, procedures, and guidelines to continually improve the efficiency of mainframe native application and infrastructure deployments, with a focus on resource and cost optimization through automation. The engineer will interface closely with the Operations team and perform other assigned job-related duties that align with the organization's vision, mission, and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant and practical mainframe experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of network design, protocols, and security to ensure robust and secure communication within the infrastructure.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and the ability to design secure infrastructure solutions.
  • Ability to design scalable, reliable, and efficient systems that meet business requirements.
  • Skills in optimizing infrastructure performance and ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and database design to support data-driven applications.
  • Ability to align IT strategy with business goals and plan future technology initiatives.

  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering Preferred.
  • Any relevant IT Certification.
  • Experience with some of the following or equivalents: RACF, DB2, IMS, CICS, TSO, JCL, MQSeries, JES2/SDSF, Librarian, TMON, FDRABR, DFSMS, MacKinney software products, Syncsort, Mobius, Enterprise Print Manager, VFTP, Netview, CSAR scheduler, SNA communication protocol, FTP/SFTP protocol.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance and updates on servers, networks, and other infrastructure components to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical support for infrastructure-related issues, diagnose problems, and implement solutions promptly.
  • Assist in deploying and configuring new infrastructure components, ensuring they meet business requirements and standards.
  • Implement and manage monitoring tools to track the health and performance of the infrastructure and respond to alerts and incidents.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline infrastructure management tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that infrastructure components are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with other IT teams, including development, operations, and security, to ensure seamless integration and support of infrastructure services.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of infrastructure configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements.
  • Support Tyson mainframe teams by providing guidance to Tyson application group as well as oversight of service provider system support teams.
  • Develop and support policies, procedures, and guidelines to continually improve efficiency of mainframe native application deployments and infrastructure deployments.
  • Always looking to improve resource optimization and cost optimization as it relates to mainframe resources or automation.
  • Interface closely with Operation team.
  • Resolve complex mainframe issues quickly using solid analytical skills.
  • Produce clear, business-friendly documentation of ideas, requirements, architecture, and problems.
  • Generate tickets on either Tyson or service provider’s ServiceNow for tracking of requests.
  • Interface with internal and external auditing groups for periodic security verification.
