Staff Hardware Integration Engineer

ApptronikAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Apptronik is building Apollo, one of the world’s most advanced humanoid robots. As we scale from prototype to fleet deployment, we need a high-level technical leader to ensure our hardware remains resilient in the real world. As a Staff Integration Engineer, you are the "Connective Tissue" of our engineering organization. You will lead a high-stakes, cross-disciplinary task force—spanning Mechanical (ME), Electrical (EE), and Wire Harness engineering —to diagnose systemic issues, drive rigorous Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement permanent corrective actions across our Apollo fleet.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years in hardware integration, systems engineering, or robotics.
  • Proven track record of bringing order to chaos in complex electromechanical systems.
  • Expert in one field but can speak the "language" of all three (ME, EE, Harness).
  • Expert-level experience with RCA methodologies (Fishbone, 5 Whys, 8D, FMEA).
  • Proven experience sustaining hardware products throughout their lifecycle, including failure analysis, board-level debugging, and collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Proven ability to identify recurring issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement design or process improvements to enhance system reliability and reduce field failures.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-Disciplinary Leadership: Lead a dedicated team of ME, EE, and Harness engineers. You aren't just managing tasks; you are providing the technical vision to solve problems that sit at the intersection of these disciplines.
  • Systemic Root Cause Analysis: Spearhead deep-dive investigations into fleet-wide failures. Whether it’s a signal integrity issue in a high-density harness or a thermal fatigue failure in a joint actuator, you drive the path to "Why."
  • Corrective Action & Implementation: Own the lifecycle of hardware improvements. This includes drafting Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), validating fixes in the lab, pushing design to production, and overseeing the rollout of retrofits to the Apollo fleet.
  • Fleet Telemetry & Diagnostics: Partner with software and data teams to utilize robot telemetry. You will define the monitors and error codes needed to catch integration "drift" before it leads to downtime.
  • Design Feedback Loop: Act as the primary bridge between Field Operations and R&D. You will translate field failures into actionable design requirements for the next generation of humanoid hardware.
  • Reliability: Proactively initiate and lead improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and increased uptime.
