About The Position

Staff Hardware Engineer / Technical Specialist – SDV2.0 Aggregator The Role To achieve our vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, GM’s Electrical System Architecture is evolving. GM’s zonal ECU - Aggregators and Extenders – are core of this evolution to provide robust platform to our customers. GM’s Software Define Vehicle Architecture are evolving Domain ECU to Zonal ECU enabling central compute CAN/LIN focused system to Ethernet based system Electrical Fuse replacing thermal fuse for power efficiency Specific purpose IO to general purpose IO covering various domain Optimize low voltage architecture as a system including APM (DC/DC), Lithium Ion Battery, Zonal Power distribution via Aggregator/Extenders Staff Hardware Engineer / Technical Specialist – SDV2.0 Aggregator/Extender – will be the global voice for technical expertise for component and/or subsystem. Establish and maintain a clear strategy for the electrical components aligned with various subsystem including Body, Chassis, Low Voltage Electrical Power(sub)system. Ensure reuse and technical excellence of engineering solutions and components. Work with the key stakeholders from execution, performance, and support teams to ensure common implementation of strategy and to promote technical knowledge for the component and We are seeking a high performing independent engineer with demonstrated technical skills to develop winning/robust BOM strategies aligned with system, oversee solutions, resolve issues, and deliver continuous improvement for the Aggregator & Extender.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in applying microprocessor-based controllers to automotive vehicle electrical systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of serial data communications
  • In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses)
  • In-depth knowledge of verification and validation processes
  • In-depth knowledge of embedded software development, testing and associated tools
  • Understanding of hardware design and failure modes
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of vehicle service procedures.
  • Highly developed oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Electrical and across other SMTs.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • Very high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.

  • 12+ years of experience in applying microprocessor-based controllers to automotive vehicle electrical systems
  • Experience in Passive Safety Electronics
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
  • Certified Safe Agilist or SAFe Practitioner

Responsibilities

  • The Technical Specialist will utilize engineering tools and processes to successfully develop component requirements for vehicle programs.
  • Effectively lead/support a global team of Hardware Design Team, DRE(design release engineers) to ensure they meet program landmarks by thorough and rigorous program management.
  • Coach and support in house design team or suppliers to timely execution of work you're leading with excellence.
  • Highly technical engineer with either depth of knowledge in Electric Power and/or vast knowledge in vehicle safety systems and electronic control systems.
  • Conduct Benchmarking
  • Understand (sub)system requirements and translate them into CTRS (component technical requirements specification)
  • Maintain and refresh BOM Strategies
  • Create Family / Variant Maps / Program Rollout Plans
  • Expert knowledge of current Electric Power Applications
  • Intimate knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
  • Bridge between Global requirements and Aggregator/Extender component requirements
  • Create and Maintain Best Practices and Inherent Criteria
  • Approve or support BOM Picks and deliver BOM which meets Imperatives (Cost, Mass, Investment, Quality)
  • Approve Program SORs and Sourcing Decisions
  • Review Regulations and provide guidance to Design Release Engineers (DREs) on designs to ensure designs can meet both internal requirements and regulatory compliance
  • Support Supplier Development and Qualification
  • Approve Peer Reviews and identify issues (e.g. integration, interfaces, systemic issues)
  • Engineering Change Request (ECR) support/approval
  • Support Assembly Plant issue resolution
  • Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting activities to support PRTS Issue Resolution
  • Perform read across for Safety Tether PRTS
  • Perform read across for NHTSA Recalls of competitors
  • Support Product Investigations (SFI Process)
  • Support Cost Reduction
  • Lead Global Electric Power work group meetings
  • Provides guidance and consultation to Design Release Engineers (DREs) in product development team meetings
  • Create and maintain Best Practices
  • Create ICDe and ICDm Templates
  • Support CR/DNs
  • Support cross functional forums related with Electric Power (ART, Safety, JIRA, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally within Electrical and across other SMTs.
  • Collaborate and strategize with Aggregator TS, Electric Power (Sub)system TS, and Safety Requirements Software Defined Vehicle Experience / Zonal ECU
