The Phlebotomist, Staff Grade will be responsible for attending the hospital daily at determined hours to collect blood samples from patients via venepuncture. This role requires competence in selecting appropriate sample bottles, performing procedures for high-risk patients, organizing and cleaning work areas, and liaising with medical and nursing staff to prioritize and locate patients. The position may also involve competency in accessing various central venous access devices for blood sampling. The role emphasizes efficient planning, maintaining patient confidentiality, delivering quality service, effective communication, and ensuring accurate sample labeling and patient aftercare. Additionally, the Phlebotomist will maintain basic IT skills, participate in departmental audits, manage phlebotomy stocks, and assist in training new phlebotomists. A strong adherence to health, safety, and security protocols, including hospital policies and relevant national standards, is crucial. The role also supports sustainability initiatives within the health service.
