About The Position

GeoEngineers, Inc. is seeking Staff Geotechnical Engineers in Cary, North Carolina. This role involves performing geotechnical engineering activities for subsurface exploration programs, site reconnaissance, and observing trenchless pipeline construction. The engineer will conduct horizontal directional drilling (HDD) design calculations and analysis, as well as geotechnical analysis for foundation support. Responsibilities also include assisting with training junior staff, supporting project management tasks, managing small projects under supervision, and performing analysis for liquefaction potential and slope stability. The role requires ensuring timely submission of deliverables and assisting CAD designers with HDD project plans and technical report generation. Domestic travel to project sites may be required up to 50% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • 1 year of experience as a Research/Teaching Assistant, as an Engineer, or in a related geotechnical/civil engineering occupation.
  • 6 months using MathCAD, CPET-IT, GeoStudio (Slope/W), or other software related to the discipline of geotechnical engineering.
  • 6 months using AutoCAD to develop design projects.
  • EI (Engineer Intern) or EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or eligibility for EI/EIT certification through having passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Completion of coursework (at either an undergraduate or graduate level) covering soil mechanics and foundation design.
  • All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently.
  • Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical engineering activities for geotechnical subsurface exploration programs to develop an understanding of site soil conditions, ensuring that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Perform site reconnaissance to document existing conditions and complete detailed, accurate field reports.
  • Observe and document trenchless pipeline construction activities in compliance with specifications.
  • Perform horizonal directional drilling (HDD) design calculations and analysis to estimate hydraulic fracture potential, pipe stress, and installation forces using in-house software.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis for foundation support, including bearing capacity, settlement, and earth pressures.
  • Assist with training junior technical and technician staff.
  • Support project management tasks such as budget planning, general field report reviews, and proposal development.
  • Manage small projects under the supervision of a certified professional engineer or scientist as required.
  • Perform analysis to evaluate liquefaction potential and slope stability under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Ensure that deliverables are submitted to the project manager in a timely manner and are completed as estimated.
  • Assist CAD (Computer Aided Design) designers with the development of design plans for HDD projects.
  • Assist with the generation of technical reports; complete portions of technical reports and generate figures, tables, charts, etc.
