About The Position

NV5 is hiring an early-career geologist for its Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation team in Chico, California. The role supports assessment and remediation of sites with contaminated soil, soil vapor, and/or groundwater across Northern California. The geologist will work with experienced senior-level staff in the office and field and may receive cross-training on stormwater and geotechnical projects. The work is approximately 75% field and 25% office, with regular fieldwork and some overnight travel.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Geology or Geological Sciences.
0–2 years of professional field experience.
Strong interest in environmental assessment and remediation.
Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.
Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
Regular fieldwork and some overnight travel are required.

Nice To Haves

Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
Previous soil-logging experience.
Prior experience sampling impacted soil, soil vapor, and groundwater.

Responsibilities

Conduct fieldwork for site investigation and characterization.
Direct drilling operations, collect soil, soil vapor, and groundwater samples, and coordinate and schedule contractors.
Log soil in accordance with ASTM D2487, ASTM D2488, and ASTM D2113.
Conduct groundwater sampling in accordance with ASTM D4448, ASTM D6771, and ASTM D6001.
Perform data analysis and QA/QC, including preparing and reviewing data tables, maps, and figures using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS.
Support preparation of technical reports, letters, and proposals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to NV5 safety practices and policies.
