VaricentToronto, ON
CA$145,440 - CA$190,800Hybrid

About The Position

At Varicent, we’re redefining how organizations achieve revenue success with cutting-edge SaaS solutions for Sales Performance Management (SPM). As a Staff Software Developer, GenAI, you will play a critical role in building and scaling production-grade AI systems that directly impact customer experience. You will contribute to the design and delivery of GenAI-powered features, collaborate with technical leads and senior stakeholders, and help set the technical bar for quality, reliability, and scalability across a core product area. This role is for a senior engineer who thrives in complex systems, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, and wants to apply modern AI technologies in real-world, high-impact products.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years building and shipping production systems in product teams.
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience writing production-quality code.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, distributed systems, and scalable architecture.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript (or similar), building APIs, services, and data pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability.
  • Experimentation mindset — able to define metrics, build evaluation frameworks, and iterate quickly in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Passion for learning and applying GenAI technologies in practical, production environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on GenAI/LLM experience: prompt engineering, retrieval/RAG, embeddings, tool or function calling, fine-tuning, or evaluation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with LLMOps practices: experiment tracking, version control for prompts/models, and cost or latency optimization.
  • Experience with tools such as LangChain/LangGraph, OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, and vector databases like Pinecone, FAISS, or Milvus.
  • Contributions to open source, technical blogs, or conference talks.

Responsibilities

  • Own AI-enabled components end-to-end and deliver measurable improvements in quality and reliability.
  • Operate independently, drive design decisions within your area, and help establish strong engineering standards through reviews, mentorship, and technical leadership.
  • Own delivery for significant features or systems — clarify requirements, design solutions, implement, ship, and iterate in production.
  • Build and maintain reliable services, APIs, and workflows that support GenAI features at scale.
  • Define and automate quality metrics for your area, including success metrics, test strategies, and evaluation approaches.
  • Run structured experiments, interpret results, and translate learnings into tangible product improvements.
  • Improve operational readiness through deployment automation, monitoring and alerting, incident analysis, and performance or cost optimization.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers through design feedback, code reviews, and hands-on technical leadership.
