About The Position

Headway's mission is to build a new mental healthcare system that is accessible to everyone, addressing the issue that most providers do not accept insurance, making therapy unaffordable for many. The company has automated the administrative tasks associated with insurance, such as credentialing, claims, and payment reconciliation. Over 75,000 providers in all 50 states use Headway's software, serving over 1 million patients. Headway is developing tools for therapists to manage their entire practice, improving the process of finding a therapist, and investing in platform foundations for scalability. The company is not just a billing layer but is becoming the platform where care is delivered. As a Series D company with over $325 million in funding from investors like a16z, Accel, and Spark Capital, Headway is seeking exceptional individuals to help achieve its mission and provide the most meaningful career experience. The role of a Fullstack Engineer at Headway involves end-to-end ownership, building reliable abstraction layers over the fragmented healthcare system, and translating them into seamless, empathetic user experiences.

  • Sets the Technical Standard: Makes technical decisions optimizing for maintainability and scale, proactively improving engineering velocity through tooling, automation, or pattern establishment.
  • Mentor by Default: Includes engineers in design discussions, provides educational code reviews, and ensures knowledge sharing.
  • Ships Fast, Iterates Faster: Moves quickly from problem statement to working solution, prioritizing shipping a good v1 quickly over a perfect v1 later, valuing real feedback.
  • Quick Study in Complex Domains: Dives into unfamiliar domains like healthcare (payers, regulations, exceptions) and builds a working mental model rapidly.
  • Motivated by Impact: Wants to apply engineering skills to meaningful problems like improving mental healthcare access.
  • Communicates with Precision: Communicates clearly and concisely in various formats (Slack, design docs, meetings), bringing people along effectively.
  • AI Frontier Tinkerer: Pushes the limits of AI tools, experimenting with LLMs for workflows like code generation, automation, and developer tooling, with a responsible builder's mindset for healthcare.
