Staff Forward Deployment Engineer

SnykBoston, MA

About The Position

Snyk is the leader in secure AI software development, helping millions of developers develop fast and stay secure as AI transforms how software is built. Our AI-native Developer Security Platform integrates seamlessly into development and security workflows, making it easy to find, fix, and prevent vulnerabilities — from code and dependencies to containers and cloud. Our mission is to empower every developer to innovate securely in the AI era — boosting productivity while reducing business risk. We’re not your average security company - we build Snyk on One Team, Care Deeply, Customer Centric, and Forward Thinking. It’s how we stay driven, supportive, and always one step ahead as AI reshapes our world. Why this role? Evo is Snyk's product for securing AI-native applications — the AI coding assistants in developers' IDEs, the agents running in production, the attack surface that comes with both. The category is new; the work FDEs do with customers shapes what the rest of the stack looks like. The role has two sides. With enterprise customers, you write the code that gets Evo running in their environment and working for their use cases, debug what breaks, and build the workarounds for what the product doesn't do yet. With Evo's engineering team, you bring back what you've learned and help shape what gets built next. You'd join a small FDE team embedded across Snyk's largest enterprise customers and directly with our core engineering teams. This is an IC engineering role — you'll write code every week and talk to customers every week.

Requirements

  • You have done customer-embedded engineering as the actual job, not a side responsibility.
  • You ship code as an IC — production code, recently, and routinely.
  • You've been the engineer the customer talks to when something breaks.
  • Procurement review on Tuesday, debugging their broken Helm chart on Wednesday — both feel normal.
  • You've worked on small teams where the customer environment was somebody else's mess and you got it working anyway.
  • You can walk through specific things you've built: CLIs, SDKs, Kubernetes operators, MCP servers, security brokers, SIEM connectors, customer-facing integrations.
  • You've built something with LLM SDKs, MCP, or agent frameworks.

Nice To Haves

  • Have spent time at venture-backed startups or growth-stage companies.
  • Know enterprise security and IT tooling well enough to debug it without docs (Splunk, Jamf, Intune, ServiceNow, Active Directory).

Responsibilities

  • Write code that gets Evo running in their environment and working for their use cases.
  • Debug what breaks.
  • Build the workarounds for what the product doesn't do yet.
  • Bring back what you've learned and help shape what gets built next.
  • Write the deployment config.
  • Debug a TLS issue with their corporate proxy.
  • Ship the install to a 50-engineer pilot by Friday.
  • Write a CLI flag the customer needs and shipping into production.
  • Write the integration for Evo's AI-BOM output flowing into their existing asset management system.
  • Get the PR reviewed by the core Evo team, and ship it.
  • The work spans agent scanner deployments, AI governance / policies, threat modeling with design partners, and the broker work that gets Evo into restricted networks.
