About The Position

As a member of Anthropic’s go-to-market team, the Staff Forward Deployed Engineer embeds with strategic customers and leads the technical direction of their AI adoption. The role combines hands-on engineering with architecture guidance and advisory work: determining what should be built, guiding how it is built, and ensuring that customer teams receive production-ready systems they can operate. The engineer works closely with customer teams and Anthropic’s Research, Product, and Engineering teams to understand workflows and develop advanced AI applications for complex business problems while maintaining high standards for safety and reliability. Staff FDEs set direction amid ambiguity, guide architecture and initiatives across multiple workstreams, and represent Anthropic to senior customer stakeholders. The role also helps shape and scale Anthropic’s forward-deployed approach.

Requirements

  • Deep system design and problem decomposition skills, including the ability to develop defensible technical strategies for secure, production-ready solutions in complex enterprise environments with legacy systems, identity and access requirements, and compliance constraints.
  • Experience in a senior technical, customer-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, or experience as a Tech Lead with consulting or product experience; former technical founders are also encouraged to apply.
  • A track record of being relied upon for ambiguous technical decisions through architecture review, pairing, or informal mentorship.
  • A track record of directly influencing senior technical and business stakeholders, including VP and C-level stakeholders in complex organizations.
  • Extensive experience building and operating production systems.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and agents; side projects and prototypes count.
  • Strong programming skills and proficiency in Python; experience with one or more additional languages such as TypeScript or Java is described as ideal.
  • Experience shipping production applications and everyday use of AI coding tools, with the judgment to review and steer their output.
  • Experience leading advisory and architecture-review engagements as well as hands-on builds, and running engagements end to end.
  • High agency, ability to navigate ambiguity in complex organizations, and ability to learn new domains and tools quickly.
  • Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems through creative technical applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

  • Review designs and unblock other Forward Deployed Engineers on difficult technical decisions.
  • Represent Anthropic to senior technical and business stakeholders, including VPs and C-level executives, to align on strategy and de-risk delivery.
  • Own engagements end to end: scope and sequence work, remove blockers, anticipate security and procurement gates, and deliver production systems customers can operate.
  • Build production applications and agent components with Claude within customer systems, then hand over systems customers can run.
  • Identify and codify repeatable deployment patterns and share insights with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Build long-term customer relationships and proactively identify opportunities for AI deployment throughout engagements.
