About The Position

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is looking for an individual to support both shop fabrication and infield activities at ARA’s China Lake location, located in Ridgecrest, CA. The candidate will support fabrication of electronics equipment, assembly of mechanical structures, field install of mechanical and electrical equipment, and post-install support. The position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at client and/or field locations. This includes instructing customers in equipment operation, providing technical assistance, performing preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. The role also entails performing a wide range of installation tasks such as running conduit and cable, installing and connecting trays, racks, and electronic hardware systems, and connecting and testing new and retrofit construction of audio/visual, computer server, network, and telecommunications equipment. Additionally, the technician will install, upgrade, and remove products, ensuring coordinated engineering field changes, and assemble, install, and configure systems and equipment according to site assessments and schematics. Completing system programming, optimization, final commissioning, and integrated acceptance testing of electrical systems and associated equipment is also part of the role, ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards (API, ABS, DNV, etc.). Routine system maintenance, analysis, hardware configurations, and equipment component replacement are expected. The technician will provide on-site end-user training on system operation, maintenance, and limited troubleshooting, and will travel frequently to customer sites. The role requires the ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment to meet customer needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand both mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Understanding of low voltage wiring systems.
  • Ability to read and redline design drawings.
  • Ability to translate skills into both shop and field install activities.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Provide innovative feedback and problem solving to teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Background in the above-mentioned skillsets.
  • Ability to work in a flexible, high-paced environment to meet customer needs.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in work that directly relates to the above position description.
  • Must have the ability to gain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Perform routine system maintenance and analysis functions, including hardware configurations and adding, removing, and replacing equipment components.
  • Provide on-site end-user training on system operation, maintenance, and limited troubleshooting.
  • Travel frequently to customer sites.
  • Read and Red Line Electrical Schematics.
  • Read and Red line Mechanical Assembly / Sub-Assemblies drawings.
  • Assemble and wire custom equipment.
  • Test and verify equipment.
  • Run conduit and pull wire.
  • Terminate wire in the field.
  • Work closely in a team setting with other technicians and engineers.
