We're always looking for talented individuals to join our team.   The Commercial Partnerships team is looking for a Dolby Vision Staff Applications Field  Engineer to work as part of a team to deeply support, design and launch Dolby Vision services on the platforms of some of the largest media companies in the world. As a Dolby Vision Staff Applications Engineer in this area, you will serve as a market facing technical resource and direct liaison between Dolby's US Commercial Partnerships team and the largest Streaming, Pay TV  and Broadcast networks in the world who are defining this market and are expanding their businesses to capture, create and deliver Movies, Episodic and Live content in Dolby Vision. Coordinating with account leads and your team members, you will be managing and documenting multiple projects with different workflows, identifying workflow pinch-points and leveraging both your own skills and those of the team to deliver the ideal architecture workflow to our partners. The ideal candidate will have experience in and deep technical knowledge of broadcast and streaming video workflows and trends, as well as end-to-end, "creation to delivery" architecture and deep, integration-level experience with video technologies (HEVC/H.265/AV1) for encoding and decoding in Pay TV and Streaming delivery, to every platform, screen type and device.

Requirements

  • BSEE or similar (Physics, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.) and 4 years of experience in professional imaging, Broadcast, OTT Streaming and post production or related fields.
  • It is vital that applicant can quickly and thoroughly learn a variety of technical topics in a short time.
  • 5-7 years (or more) of direct experience in Applications Engineering and/or other technical customer support.
  • 5-7 years' experience coding in C and/or C++. Expertise with one or more scripting languages (PERL, Python, BASH, etc.) is expected.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated individual, able to recognize opportunities and prioritize their effort effectively.
  • Opportunities for public presentation of technical papers and value presentations to industry trade groups and engineering conferences.
  • Experience with video codecs and compression standards such as AV1, H.264, H.265 and HEVC. Knowledge of common video analysis tools, HDMI and video perceptual quality testing. Experience with HDR video is a major plus.
  • Experience working with HLS, MPEG2 TS, CENC and CMAF, Play Ready, MPEG-DASH, MP4. IMF containers and ASF.
  • Technical skills and working knowledge of Streaming, Broadcast and head end technologies and architectures, media processing and video workflow technologies and architectures used in delivering content through the entire distribution chain used in scaled Streaming and Pay TV markets.
  • Experience must include exposure to Digital Signal Processing and at least three of the following areas: QC workflows Software development System engineering and integration Technology licensing Imaging Color Science Video Post-Production Tools and workflow, i.e. color grading, MXF, IMF Imaging and digital video post-production technologies Testing professional electronic products Image quality assessment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, team building skills, plus strong work and business ethics.
  • Self-motivated, self-assured person with aptitude to interface with personnel from highest to lowest levels of customer engineering organizations.
  • Position will require 25% to 40% domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed integration support and deep technical knowledge to the customer base for the Dolby Vision enabled ecosystems across Pay TV, TV Networks and Streaming partners. Workflow problems will require in-depth evaluation of many elements including mezzanine, encoding, packaging, decoding, networking and production.
  • Evangelize Dolby Vision to customers in sales meetings, together with team members and account leads.  Provide technology demonstrations as appropriate for both value-add and deeper technical discussions. You will be the Dolby Vision Subject Matter Expert in many sales meetings and technical meetings, focused on driving customers' to Dolby Vision as a premium deliverable which is achievable in their workflow.
  • You will interact with various internal groups to identify and resolve technical challenges on behalf of Dolby Vision HOR enabled ecosystems. Projects will require specialized technical knowledge of Dolby encoding and media processing products and SDKs, as well as other technologies in the ecosystem.
  • Be the "voice of the customer" when discussing Dolby Vision with engineering and product management, broadening Dolby's knowledge base through understanding technical trends and objectives that consider practical, real-world use cases. Work with Product and Technology groups within Dolby to resolve partner issues and improve Dolby tools and deliverables. Help define and improve integration and testing processes.
  • Embrace self-improvement and the mentorship of others. Participate generously in helping to develop the overall  
  • Dolby team by sharing knowledge and experience while also seeking out learning opportunities from other experts in the Dolby family.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our partners' requirements while delivering technical presentations and technical demonstrations internally and to the industry at large. Be a Dolby Evangelist to customers during direct engagements and to the industry at large during industry conferences. Promote the value proposition of Dolby technologies to many stakeholders across our partners' organizations. Be the technical lead for sales-oriented technical presentations and demonstrations to customers, their technical staff and their senior management.
  • Interface with Dolby product management and engineering to provide input and suggestions for new products and features, based on customer needs and competitive information. Leverage partner meetings to gather insight into trends in scaled media processing and workflow architectures for VOD and Live and share that data with relevant internal Dolby teams.
  • Attend trade shows, seminars, conferences, and educational events to keep abreast of industry developments, promote and demonstrate Dolby technologies and examine the potential of new markets for Dolby technologies.
  • Interact and partner with various groups within Dolby. Become the voice of our customers, explaining their requirements and resolving technical challenges while attempting to deliver a resolution to our customers' benefit and on behalf of the larger market ecosystem. Projects will require specialized technical knowledge of Dolby Vision encoding and media processing SDK's, color grading, and encoding tools as well as other technologies in the ecosystem that Dolby Vision relies upon to be enabled.
