About The Position

As a member of the technical leadership team, the Staff Engineer works with teams to compose and develop solutions, champion innovation, drive standardization, and deliver modern technology patterns across the stack. The role is part of a fast-paced technology group adopting new technologies to build innovative, cloud-native experiences, capabilities, and platforms for millions of customers seeking products that provide guaranteed income and/or protection. Operating at the intersection of engineering, product, and design, the Staff Engineer drives technical strategy, elevates engineering standards, and helps ensure seamless, performant, personalized user experiences. The role is in an emerging group with strong strategic financial backing.

The position is part of the Fidelity Insurance Group Delivery team, which focuses on empowering customers and associates in a digital-first world by creating scalable business capabilities and platforms supporting Fidelity’s Brokerage, Wealth, and Workplace businesses. Requirements

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience as a full-stack engineer and/or solution architect.
• Deep understanding of life insurance digital ecosystems, including underwriting, compliance, and member-facing experience design across web and mobile channels.
• Experience leading the lifecycle of multiple concurrent solutions, with communication and interpersonal skills, cross-functional engagement, business analysis, architecture definition, proof-of-concept creation, presentation skills, influence, and the ability to make progress despite ambiguity.
• Proven experience engineering large-scale web applications end-to-end, with a focus on customer experience, operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost efficiency.
• Proficiency in cloud architecture, services, and patterns, with hands-on experience using core AWS services required. Examples include Amazon VPC, DNS, ELB, CloudFront, API Gateway, IAM, EKS, Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, S3, RDS Oracle/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Secrets Manager, CloudFormation/Terraform, event-driven architecture, and resiliency.
• Expertise in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, Spring, NodeJS/NestJS, microservices architecture, REST, and Spring frameworks or similar.
• Experience in DevSecOps, CI/CD automation, and container orchestration such as Kubernetes/EKS.
• Experience with event-driven and serverless architectures, API design, and integration patterns.
• Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, including the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
• Agile development experience and a passion for continuous learning and innovation.

Nice To Haves

• Experience designing, implementing, or maintaining systems that support Term Life Insurance operations, including policy administration, underwriting, and claims processing.
• Experience with Jenkins Core and GitOps, or equivalent CI/CD automation experience.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts.
