About The Position

As a Staff Engineer in our Engineering Observability team, you will play a critical role in shaping how we understand, operate, and scale our systems. You’ll lead the design and evolution of our observability platform, bringing together metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting to deliver fast, reliable insights for engineering teams. This is a high-impact role focused on setting technical direction and raising the bar for engineering excellence. You’ll define best practices, establish scalable patterns, and create paved paths that enable teams to effectively monitor and improve their services. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll help translate complex reliability and telemetry challenges into simple, scalable solutions—making high-quality, observable systems the default.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in observability principles, including SLIs/SLOs, telemetry design, and signal quality, with the ability to define and implement clear, opinionated standards
  • Proven experience designing and evolving end-to-end telemetry architectures, including pipelines, OpenTelemetry, and platform integrations
  • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to drive alignment across teams and build trust with engineers and stakeholders without formal authority
  • Passion for elevating engineering practices through reusable patterns, frameworks, and practical guidance
  • Hands-on experience with modern observability tooling (e.g. Datadog preferred, but not a must)
  • Deep experience with OpenTelemetry and building scalable observability pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of SEEK’s observability strategy, aligning initiatives to customer journeys and measurable business impact
  • Define and embed SLI/SLO frameworks to strengthen service reliability and improve visibility into system performance
  • Establish best-in-class standards for instrumentation, logging, tracing, and tagging across engineering teams
  • Champion telemetry best practices by coaching and enabling teams to build observable systems from the ground up
  • Elevate signal quality, alerting, and incident response to ensure faster detection and resolution of issues
  • Partner closely with product and platform teams to integrate observability into the software development lifecycle
  • Accelerate adoption through scalable tooling, clear playbooks, and hands-on technical enablement
  • Lead strategic initiatives, providing technical leadership and influencing outcomes across multiple teams

Benefits

  • Annual Performance Bonus Plan
  • Support of flexible working, including a mix of office and work from home days depending on your role.
  • Paid and unpaid leave benefits including Personal Flexi Days and Volunteer Days, as well as the opportunity to purchase additional leave
  • Support for parents with 14 weeks paid primary carers leave and 2 weeks paid leave for partners
  • The opportunity to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per financial year
