Staff Engineer (Multiple Openings)

Samsung•San Jose, CA

About The Position

Samsung’s Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) are building a center of excellence for intellectual property used in high-performance computing devices for mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments. The Staff Engineer will lead verification of pixel pipe subsystems—including scalar/vector ALUs, register files, and instruction issue logic—to ensure functional correctness and meet performance targets. The role develops and maintains SystemVerilog and UVM test benches, creates verification plans based on specifications and cross-functional input, and collaborates with RTL designers, compiler teams, and architecture teams to identify corner cases, debug failures, and improve design quality. It also uses coverage-driven methodologies, improves verification tools and flows, supports post-silicon bring-up and validation, and communicates project progress, blockers, and risks.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least two years of experience in a related occupation performing each of the following: UVM/OVM/VMM; test bench development; test/verification plan creation; Synopsis VCS or an equivalent verification tool; and code coverage analysis/closure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead verification of pixel pipe subsystems, including scalar/vector ALUs, register files, and instruction issue logic, to ensure functional correctness and performance targets.
  • Develop and maintain complex SystemVerilog and UVM test benches to simulate and validate shader pipeline behavior under various workloads.
  • Create detailed verification plans based on architectural specifications, microarchitecture design documents, and cross-functional input.
  • Collaborate with RTL designers, compiler teams, and architecture teams to identify corner cases, debug failures, and improve design quality.
  • Use coverage-driven verification methodologies to achieve functional and code coverage goals, and proactively analyze and close coverage gaps.
  • Contribute to tool and flow improvements to increase simulation efficiency and coverage feedback, including integration of formal methods where applicable.
  • Support post-silicon bring-up and validation by assisting with silicon debug and correlating pre-silicon models with silicon behavior.
  • Communicate progress, blockers, and risks to technical leads and project managers, and contribute to planning and milestone definition for shader verification schedules.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Free onsite lunch
