Staff Engineer, Software - GenAI

Chamberlain Group•Oak Brook, IL

About The Position

Chamberlain Group is hiring a Staff Engineer, Software, to help lead its shift toward AI-native experiences. The role architects and builds LLM-based agents that use real-world tools and APIs, coordinate tasks across roles, and scale in production. The work spans AI features for Chamberlain products, including video-based search, chatbot interfaces for search and AI-generated insights, and backend pipelines and APIs for AI feature delivery. The engineer will develop agentic AI systems using LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCP, tool integration, and orchestration frameworks. They will design role-based agent architectures, coordination protocols, and memory systems; build and optimize pipelines; and develop agent reasoning, planning, and long-term memory retrieval. The position works across product, engineering, and AI research teams to deliver scalable, performant assistants, and drives decisions on tooling, infrastructure, observability, and production readiness. The role also provides technical leadership and mentorship, ensures end-to-end delivery across frontend, backend, and ML components, and promotes code quality, scalability, and maintainability. Responsibilities include contributing to roadmap and sprint planning, defining engineering workflows and coding standards, and improving delivery velocity, quality metrics, and GenAI tool adoption. The engineer must follow health and safety requirements, protect confidential information, maintain professional and technical knowledge, and contribute to team projects as needed. Travel may be required up to 10% domestically and internationally.
