This role is for a Staff Engineer with working knowledge of IEC 62368-1, IEC 61010-1, and IEC 60601-1 standards, including their collateral and particular standards. The engineer will be senior enough to demonstrate this knowledge and will support other engineers, sales staff, and customers. Responsibilities include project scoping, quoting, and contributing to the growth of the Santa Clara product safety business. The Staff Engineer will work independently on various products, adhering to U.S., Canadian, and international product safety standards, writing reports, and communicating with clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of product safety experience.
  • Strong familiarity with IEC62368-1.
  • Familiar with A2LA accreditation, OSHA, and SCC.
  • Background in compliance, safety, quality, and/or compliance.
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate up to 30%.
  • Able to go locally to client sites for any testing when needed.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standard knowledge in base standards (IEC 62368-1 & IEC 61010-1, IEC 60601-1), along with the collaterals.
  • Quote projects as needed to support management for product safety standards.
  • Be comfortable taking on new standards as the business dictates.
  • Test products in accordance with standards and requirements, including power input, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, stability, mechanical hazards, flammability, abnormal and single fault, IP testing, and others as applicable.
  • Support the Department Manager in maintaining accreditation by assisting with quality aspects.
  • Take on special assignments to ensure the department is well-maintained.
  • Prepare and support the Department Manager for internal and external audits.
  • Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off-site.
  • Support sales in project communication with customers.
  • Attend product reviews to provide technical support.
  • Answer technical questions.
  • Review technical reports, test plans, and test data sheets.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Make technical decisions and provide engineering rationales for other engineers.
  • Act as the technical expert and provide technical advice to the team.
  • Support department objectives and company goals.
