About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for pushing the boundaries of what's possible. This role focuses on developing robust precision machine systems that offer significant competitive advantages to Corning's businesses and enable new products. The position involves interfacing with various teams, designing and analyzing mechanical systems, solving complex engineering problems, and integrating commercial technologies. The engineer will also utilize internal lab facilities for prototyping and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, discipline in: Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Precision's, or related fields
  • Experience in designing and building complex mechanical systems
  • 5-10 years professional experience in Engineering required
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, & Inventor)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with metrology tools and techniques (e.g., CMM, laser interferometer).
  • Strong knowledge of precision machining techniques and materials.
  • Innovative with strong technical curiosity
  • Track record of researching prior art and documenting Intellectual Property
  • Strong understanding of precision engineering principles
  • Comfortable collaborating with a diverse project team

Responsibilities

  • Interface with the Research, Development, Engineering and Manufacturing teams that are involved in the innovation and manufacture of new products and machine systems for any of Corning’s Businesses
  • Design and analysis of first generation /next generation products, machines, machine fixturing and machine components from a robustness of design perspective.
  • Work with other project team members on solving difficult mechanical engineering related problems.
  • Develop deep understanding of process requirements to influence equipment design functionality & performance.
  • Integrate commercially available technologies and processes and effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators.
  • Utilize internal lab facilities and equipment to develop proof of concept prototypes.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams controls & process engineers, optical & glass scientists.
