Staff Engineer, Power Integrity

Celestica•Austin, TX

About The Position

The Staff Engineer, Power Integrity develops electrical systems and circuits for a range of applications, from researching system concepts and creating plans to documenting designs in schematics and system specifications. The role tests, simulates, validates, and qualifies systems, makes design adjustments as needed, and supports manufacturing of the resulting electrical systems. It works with designers, customers, manufacturing engineering, and project leadership to deliver robust, high-quality products, incorporating feedback from manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulation reviews. The engineer leads power integrity work across boards and systems, including power delivery network architecture, modeling, simulation, characterization, hardware correlation, and system-level validation. The position also provides implementation guidance to PCB, package, system-design, and other cross-functional teams, supports designs throughout development, and drives improvements to processes, procedures, and quality.

Requirements

  • M.S. with at least 7 years of experience, or Ph.D. with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Proven technical understanding of power supply architectures, voltage regulator technologies, power distribution network modeling, and PCB design practices.
  • Working knowledge of 3D/2D electromagnetic simulation tools, electromagnetic modeling, and transmission line theory.
  • Experience with 2.5D tools such as PowerDC, PowerSI, SIWave, OptimizePI, Sentinel-PI, or nSys; 3D full-wave tools such as HFSS or nWave; and quasi-static tools such as Q3D or nApex.
  • Familiarity with LTSPICE, HSPICE, Spectre, AMS, Simplis, or equivalent models for system-level transient droop analysis.
  • Ability to work and communicate efficiently in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, teach and mentor others, and innovate.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. and/or Ph.D. academic background in Power/Signal Integrity, Power Electronics, or Analog Circuit Design.
  • Understanding of power supply architecture covering multi-stage/multi-phase voltage regulator technologies, PCB and package design trends and trade-offs, and chip-supply design including low- and high-power methodologies.
  • Experience developing PI/SI methodologies, modeling PDNs from system to die, and conducting lab correlation and validation.
  • Familiarity with Python coding and AI/ML-assisted automation.
  • Experience designing and analyzing product power supply solutions.
  • Deep understanding of voltage regulator design principles and the electrical performance of system environments.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as VNA, real-time scope, and spectrum analyzer.
  • Experience driving initiatives that improve processes, procedures, and quality.
  • Experience with PCB or package design tools such as Allegro or Xpedition.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform target impedance, transient voltage droop, phase margin, and stability analyses.
  • Define power delivery network (PDN) architectures and design solutions for boards and systems across a wide range of power specifications.
  • Lead power delivery modeling, simulation, and characterization for interposers, packages, PCBs, and voltage regulators to meet impedance and voltage droop specifications.
  • Collaborate with multifunctional teams to design end-to-end power delivery systems.
  • Provide implementation guidelines and feedback to PCB, package, system design, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Lead hardware correlation at component, board, and system levels.
  • Develop test suites for system-level validation of power-domain design margin.
  • Provide power integrity support throughout the design process.
  • Drive initiatives to improve processes, procedures, and quality.
