About The Position

As a Staff Engineer II, you’ll play a senior individual contributor role in designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications. Depending on the initiative, you may independently build solutions or provide technical leadership to external vendor teams delivering larger systems. You’ll lead by example, developing clean, reusable code and establishing strong technical foundations that make future development faster and more effective. The applications you support are primarily enterprise-scale web or mobile solutions built using Microsoft technologies, with integrations across Bain’s internal systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience developing enterprise-scale applications
  • Strong track record of performance in software development roles
  • Solid understanding of Agile software development methodologies, including sprints, scrums, user stories, and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Experience architecting new initiatives in alignment with established architecture and security practices
  • Experience providing technical leadership to developers and senior engineers
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across varied project stakeholders and dependent initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work across technical areas to resolve conflicts, dependencies, and delivery challenges
  • Experience across relevant technologies including: Frameworks: .NET, .NET Core; Languages: C#, T-SQL; Front End: Angular, React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap; Databases: Microsoft SQL Server; Cloud: Microsoft Azure Services; Testing: XUnit, Jasmine, or similar; DevOps: GitHub Actions; Search: Elasticsearch, Coveo, or similar; NoSQL: MongoDB, Cosmos DB; Caching: Redis, MemCache
  • Relevant data engineering experience may include: T-SQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake and Blob Storage, Azure Synapse and Analysis Services, Talend and Azure Data Factory, MongoDB and Cosmos DB, Azure-based data warehousing, Microsoft Azure Services, GitHub Actions, Tableau and Power BI
  • Relevant automation & low-code experience may include: Software development using C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages; Relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft Dataverse; REST or SOAP APIs and web services; Enterprise infrastructure, networking, and access management concepts; RPA platforms such as Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, Microsoft Power Automate, or UiPath; Low-code platforms such as Microsoft Power Apps, Appian, or OutSystems; Workflow automation tools such as Microsoft Power Automate or Nintex; Power Apps, Power Automate, or Automation Anywhere 360 experience or certifications; HTML, CSS, React, Bootstrap, or Angular; Tableau or Power BI; GitHub Actions; Secure coding practices, including secrets management through HashiCorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, or similar technologies; Authentication mechanisms including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Azure Managed Identities

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and support custom enterprise applications as a senior individual contributor
  • Partner with business stakeholders and external technical teams to understand requirements and translate them into appropriate technical solutions
  • Evaluate implementation options and provide recommendations on scope, architecture, and level of effort
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions that meet business and technical requirements
  • Partner with Infrastructure and other technology teams to support application and project requirements
  • Apply strong knowledge of application development infrastructure and identify opportunities to improve development efficiency
  • Research and evaluate emerging tools and technologies that could support future initiatives, presenting recommendations to the broader Software Applications team
  • Communicate technical concepts and design decisions clearly across project teams
  • Share technical knowledge and contribute to skill development across the engineering organization
  • Mentor engineers on advanced technical topics and support their professional development
  • Provide ongoing production support, including troubleshooting, reporting, and database administration
  • Promote and continuously improve Agile development processes and engineering standards
  • Provide technical leadership to external vendor teams developing enterprise applications
  • Serve as technical lead for project teams and priority initiatives as needed
  • Lead application architecture, design, and prototyping for new solutions and significant upgrades in partnership with Architecture teams
  • Support evaluation and selection of third-party components, libraries, and tools alongside Systems and Data Architects
  • Communicate development risks, issues, and progress to technology leadership and other stakeholders
  • Participate in product-level Steering Committee meetings when appropriate
  • Create and review technical documentation produced by engineering teams
