About The Position

Marvell's U.S. Customer Solutions Group is the frontline technical partner to the world's most demanding infrastructure customers — megascale data centers, cloud providers, and AI system builders. We turn Marvell silicon into deployable platforms by working shoulder-to-shoulder with customer engineering teams from early architecture through production ramp. Our engineers bring deep, hands-on expertise across hardware, software, and system integration. The close, trust-based collaboration we build with our customers — and with Marvell's silicon and engineering hardware teams — is foundational to Marvell's growth in networking, connectivity, and AI infrastructure. As Staff Engineer for Lab Operations, you will own end-to-end responsibility for the Customer Solutions Group's Santa Clara hardware lab — the physical and operational backbone that enables Marvell's hardware experts to deliver world-class technical engagements to our customers. This is a senior individual contributor role with full lab accountability across all CSG platforms in Santa Clara. You will own lab infrastructure, equipment lifecycle, vendor relationships, setup integrity, inventory, RMA setup readiness, budget execution, and global remote-lab enablement for Marvell's worldwide CSG and engineering teams. You will also own logistics for customer demos and industry tradeshows — making sure that when Marvell shows up technically, the lab is ready to back it up. Success in this role means that engineers and customers experience the Santa Clara CSG lab as a best-in-class environment — disciplined, reliable, and consistently ready to deliver under continuous project pressure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on hardware lab and validation engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of running or owning a hardware lab — equipment lifecycle, setups, calibration, maintenance, inventory, and safety.
  • Working familiarity with high-speed test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, BERTs, VNAs, TDR, jitter analyzers, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and compliance test kits — comfortable operating, configuring, and troubleshooting these instruments, with the ability to deepen expertise on specific tools as needed.
  • General understanding of high-speed networking and SerDes test concepts (eye-opening, BER, jitter, return loss, PDN behavior, thermal validation) — enough to set up and maintain test environments, troubleshoot setup issues, and engage credibly with senior engineers.
  • Proven vendor management experience: sourcing, quoting, negotiating, and managing service and RMA cycles with major test equipment vendors.
  • Experience executing against operational budgets and reporting against plan.
  • Strong organizational skills — able to keep a complex, multi-platform lab in disciplined order under continuous project pressure.
  • Experience supporting customer demos, tradeshows, or executive engagements — owning logistics end-to-end.
  • Experience working with facilities and security teams on lab infrastructure, build-outs, and access controls.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work across engineering teams, vendors, and global Marvell sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting labs that test Ethernet switching, AI fabric, or high-speed networking platforms.
  • Familiarity with remote lab access infrastructure (KVM-over-IP, equipment automation frameworks, lab reservation systems, secure remote control of instrumentation).
  • Background coordinating with global engineering labs across multiple time zones.
  • Experience maintaining RMA / failure-analysis test setups and ensuring readiness for field-return units.
  • Experience with lab renovation, expansion, or new-site build-out projects.
  • Familiarity with lab safety standards, ESD controls, and asset/audit compliance practices in a semiconductor environment.
  • Experience supporting customer demos at major industry tradeshows (OCP, OFC, SC, Hot Chips, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Hold full accountability for the Santa Clara CSG lab — its equipment, setups, organization, safety, and day-to-day operational health across all supported platforms.
  • Own and maintain test setups end-to-end: assembly, calibration schedules, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Drive lab organization, layout, and signage so that every engineer and visiting customer can find equipment, setups, and instrumentation quickly.
  • Lead lab renovation and expansion projects — scoping, planning, vendor coordination, and execution.
  • Partner with Marvell's facilities and physical security teams on lab needs: power, cooling, cabling, room build-outs, access controls, and visitor protocols.
  • Own the lab equipment inventory: tagging, asset tracking, location management, utilization tracking, and end-of-life planning.
  • Maintain spares, cables, fixtures, and consumables at the levels needed to keep setups running without interruption.
  • Maintain dedicated RMA test setups used to examine field-returned chips — keep the systems, test programs, and instrumentation always ready to receive and process RMA units the moment they arrive, including ensuring proper test-hole-plug coverage and re-test readiness whenever needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with test equipment vendors, integrators, and service providers.
  • Source and evaluate equipment, gather and analyze quotes, and recommend purchases based on technical fit, cost, lead time, and long-term support.
  • Stay current on the test and measurement ecosystem so Marvell's lab capability tracks the state of the art in high-speed and AI infrastructure validation.
  • Execute against the annual lab equipment and operating budget set by leadership; track spend, manage purchase orders, and report against plan.
  • Advise leadership on equipment needs, refresh cycles, and capability gaps — providing detailed quotes, technical recommendations, and ROI input to support planning.
  • Ensure that Marvell CSG team members worldwide — including the USA team — can reliably access working lab setups in Santa Clara for debugging and running tests, with connectivity and setup state maintained and always up.
  • Own the operational discipline behind remote-access uptime: setup state preservation, equipment readiness, connectivity monitoring, and quick recovery when something goes down.
  • Coordinate with Marvell labs in other geographies (Israel, India, and other sites) on shared setups, equipment loans, and cross-site resource utilization.
  • Own logistics for customer demos and industry tradeshows: planning, equipment selection, shipping, on-site setup, teardown, and return.
  • Coordinate closely with the engineers delivering the technical content so they walk into a working setup and focus entirely on the customer conversation.
  • Partner closely with Marvell's hardware design, SI/PI, silicon, software, and operations teams to anticipate lab needs as new platforms ramp.
  • Work with facilities and security teams on space planning, infrastructure upgrades, and access policies.
  • Serve as the operational backbone enabling the rest of the CSG team to do their best technical work.
  • Set the operational bar for what a best-in-class semiconductor customer-engagement lab looks like.
  • Enable Marvell's most senior hardware experts to spend their time on the technical work — by ensuring setups, equipment, and logistics never get in their way.
  • Serve as a key operational interface to vendors, facilities, security, global Marvell labs, and the worldwide CSG team.
  • Influence Marvell's lab equipment strategy and capability roadmap through technical recommendations and budget planning input.
