About The Position

GFT Infrastructure, Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer, Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics for their Oakland, CA Regional Office. This role involves performing engineering calculations, technical studies, and preparing plans and specifications for a variety of projects. The engineer will provide general oversight and management of design-related activities, prepare reports, determine client requirements, and develop designs and contract documents. Collaboration with clients and other disciplines is essential. The position requires reviewing and approving hydrologic/hydraulic calculations, modeling, and stability analyses. The engineer will also review vendor drawings, consult on field conditions, and ensure that drawings and specifications meet all project and regulatory requirements. This role includes providing direction and supervision to junior engineers, managing subsurface investigation programs, and communicating independently with clients. The engineer will work with multi-disciplinary teams and lead tasks and simple project teams. Travel to client locations may be required, not exceeding 60 days per year.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Engineering or related field
  • 4 years of relevant experience designing water facilities
  • 4 years of experience in design software and GIS
  • 4 years of experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and SITES
  • 4 years of experience with CADD
  • 4 years of experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience managing small work groups and project tasks
  • PE license

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations, technical studies, and prepare plans and specifications for a variety of projects, including new dams, dam and spillway rehabilitation, decommissioning of dams, levees, outlet facilities, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management facilities, culverts and outfalls, open channels, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, floodplain studies, inundation mapping, structure foundations, natural and engineered slopes, dredging operations, and dam inspections.
  • Provide general oversight, control, and management of design-related activities for a project, including technical reviews.
  • Prepare reports and letters.
  • Determine client requirements and develop designs and contract documents.
  • Work with clients and other disciplines to prepare designs dictated by the scope of work.
  • Review and approve hydrologic/hydraulic calculations and modeling involved in the evaluation and design of dams, waterways, and associated facilities/structures.
  • Review and approve stability analyses of dam embankments and associated facilities/structures.
  • Review vendor drawings and evaluate the need for design changes and make project recommendations.
  • Consult with construction personnel concerning field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling.
  • Ensure production of drawings and specifications meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements, as well as federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Provide direction and supervision for junior-level engineers.
  • Manage subsurface investigation programs.
