About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people more free time. This endeavor involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for home environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO, a home robot designed for real-world operation alongside people. The Business Systems Engineering team is responsible for the software systems that support 1X's operations, including manufacturing, supply chain, inventory management, planning, and sales operations. This team develops internal platforms that connect all aspects of the company, working closely with end-users to solve practical problems and build scalable software. The systems developed are critical for the high-volume production and delivery of humanoid robots.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems
• Strong experience developing full-stack applications using Python and modern JavaScript frameworks
• Proficiency with React and modern web application development
• Solid understanding of APIs, system architecture, and data modeling
• Experience deploying, operating, and supporting production software systems
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows
• Understanding of system monitoring, observability, reliability, and production support
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, evolving environment
• Strong full-stack software engineering skills with the ability to build and operate production systems end-to-end
• Ability to translate ambiguous operational challenges into practical, maintainable software solutions
• Strong systems thinking across applications, infrastructure, integrations, and business workflows
• Ownership mindset with a focus on reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing software for manufacturing, supply chain, or production operations
• Familiarity with ERP, MRP, MES, or PLM systems and integrations
• Experience building internal tools used by operations or business teams
• Strong testing practices including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Cypress or React Testing Library
• Experience designing and maintaining infrastructure, deployment pipelines, or DevOps tooling

Responsibilities

• Build the software infrastructure that powers how 1X operates.
• Design, develop, and operate the internal systems that support production, inventory, planning, procurement, and business operations across the company.
• Build our in-house ERP/MRP platform and integrate critical systems that connect manufacturing, engineering, and operations.
• Deliver reliable production software that supports manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, and business operations across the company.
• Develop and maintain core ERP/MRP functionality that improves planning, execution, traceability, and operational visibility.
• Build scalable APIs, services, and data models that integrate systems across engineering, manufacturing, and business workflows.
• Improve system performance, reliability, observability, and deployment automation across business-critical applications.
• Partner closely with operations teams to identify workflow bottlenecks and deliver software solutions that create measurable business impact.
