Staff Engineer - Engineering Enablement

Hubbell IncorporatedSolon, OH

About The Position

Hubbell Utility Solutions is seeking a Staff Engineer with over 10 years of experience to join their Engineering Enablement team. This cross-functional team focuses on improving the productivity of all engineers within the organization by building shared capabilities, commonly known as Platform Engineering or Developer Experience (DevEx). The role involves designing and building the 'golden paths' that engineers use daily for building, testing, and releasing embedded products. These are not just documentation but working systems like CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, test infrastructure, and developer workflows. The position operates at the intersection of embedded firmware, Python automation, Azure DevOps platform engineering, and real hardware validation, aiming to transform engineering practices across the company.

Requirements

  • Strong Python development for building automation, tooling, and engineering systems.
  • Experience architecting CI/CD systems (Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Deep understanding of build systems, version control, and release workflows.
  • Experience with firmware development or embedded build systems.
  • Comfortable working at the boundary between software and hardware.
  • 10+ years in software engineering, firmware development, platform engineering, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex systems used by other engineers.
  • Treat infrastructure and tooling as a product.
  • Focus on usability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Motivated by solving problems that impact entire organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure DevOps ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with test automation and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Experience integrating security/scanning tools into pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement end-to-end CI/CD systems for embedded firmware, from commit to release.
  • Build reusable pipeline templates and automation frameworks for use across multiple product teams.
  • Create onboarding and self-service systems to reduce setup time and improve consistency.
  • Treat CI/CD pipelines and engineering tooling as product-grade systems, ensuring they are reliable, observable, and continuously improved.
  • Integrate build, test, security, signing, and release processes into seamless workflows.
  • Define and evolve standard patterns that become the easiest and best way to work.
  • Automate build, flash, and validation workflows involving embedded toolchains and real hardware.
  • Integrate hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and CI systems.
  • Measure and improve build reliability, speed, and usability.
  • Reduce friction across firmware, test, and systems engineering workflows.
  • Partner with engineers to identify pain points and convert them into scalable solutions.
