About The Position

Syllo is seeking a Staff Engineer to join a new Systems team focused on Platforms, Frameworks, Tools, Patterns, and Architecture. This role involves direct technical contribution, fostering a collaborative environment, and supporting engineer growth. The ideal candidate will lead the design, implementation, and management of scalable cloud-based infrastructure, optimize data pipelines, refactor systems for scalability and resilience, and drive platform reliability and continuous improvement initiatives. This position also includes overseeing the development of internal tools, ensuring platform security, and participating in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Core software engineering skills, including proficiency in languages such as Python and Ruby.
Strong system administration experience, including fluency with Linux, networking, and bash scripting.
Proficiency with GCP.
Proficiency with cloud tools and distributed systems, such as Kubernetes, Kafka, Postgres, and Elasticsearch, or equivalent technologies.
Demonstrated expertise in Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform.
Ability to design and implement scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience addressing scaling challenges and resource contention in distributed systems.
Engagement with the open-source community, including tool research, bug reporting, and code contribution.
Expertise in cloud data security.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to members of the Platforms team, supporting their professional growth and helping them achieve their potential.
Design, implement, and manage scalable cloud-based infrastructure using Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, and other relevant technologies.
Collaborate with our AI team to optimize data pipelines and integrate AI technologies to remove performance bottlenecks.
Refactor existing systems to enhance scalability, including transforming stateful components into stateless ones, and applying extensive autoscaling and auto-repair mechanisms.
Lead efforts on data ingestion and export processes, improving efficiency and reducing dependencies on legacy technologies.
Drive platform reliability initiatives, including enhancing alerting, health checking, and incident management.
Champion continuous improvement efforts, including cost control measures and technological upgrades.
Oversee the development of internal tools that streamline workflows and reduce duplication of effort in development environments.
Ensure the platform meets rigorous testing and security standards to maintain data integrity and security.
Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure meeting SLA.
