About The Position

Analog Devices' Cloud and Data Center Equipment Business Unit is seeking an experienced and versatile Staff Product Applications Engineer to support next-generation power solutions for hyperscale cloud and AI infrastructure customers. This role sits at the intersection of power electronics, embedded systems, and customer applications engineering. The ideal candidate is a hands-on systems engineer who can evaluate and validate power solutions, develop embedded firmware and automation tools, collaborate directly with customers, and drive complex technical projects from concept through deployment. Unlike traditional applications engineering roles, this position requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to engage with engineering teams at leading cloud and data center companies to solve real-world power management challenges. The position is based in San Jose, CA and includes approximately 20-30% customer-facing engagement with leading hyperscale customers.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in applications engineering, systems engineering, power electronics, embedded systems, firmware development, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals and DC-DC power conversion.
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based development.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with electrical characterization, debugging, and validation.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting PCB-based hardware systems.
  • Programming or scripting experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers and internal stakeholders.

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience supporting cloud, AI, networking, data center, or server power applications.
  • Strong background in embedded firmware development and debugging.
  • Experience with test automation, lab automation, and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with power electronics simulation tools such as LTspice, SIMPLIS, or equivalent.
  • Experience with digital control systems, power management firmware, or hardware/software integration.
  • Knowledge of analog and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction.
  • Customer-facing experience supporting complex engineering programs.
  • Experience developing reference designs and technical collateral for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and characterize ADI power management ICs and system-level solutions.
  • Design, build, and validate hardware evaluation platforms and reference designs.
  • Develop and debug embedded firmware used to demonstrate and optimize power management solutions.
  • Create tools, scripts, and automated test solutions to improve lab efficiency and product evaluation.
  • Support customers through schematic reviews, PCB layout reviews, system bring-up, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Collaborate with product, applications, firmware, and systems engineering teams to develop customer-focused solutions.
  • Generate technical documentation including application notes, reference designs, evaluation reports, and datasheet content.
  • Perform system-level analysis, debugging, and optimization of power conversion architectures.
  • Lead or independently execute technical projects and serve as a subject matter expert within the applications engineering team.
  • Represent ADI in technical engagements with cloud and data center customers.
