About The Position

Resonant Link Medical is seeking a Staff Embedded Engineer to help develop the next generation of wireless power systems for implantable medical devices. This hands-on individual contributor will own firmware architecture and development across multiple product platforms, working with experts in electromagnetics, controls, electrical engineering, systems, quality, and testing to deliver reliable, production-ready systems. The role includes establishing and owning internal software development practices in accordance with IEC 62304, including requirements management, architecture, risk controls, traceability, verification, and release documentation. The engineer will also own software safety requirements and risk controls supporting IEC 60601 compliance. The position combines technical leadership with direct implementation, hardware–software integration, laboratory debugging, verification, and documentation. The role is remote within the United States, with substantial overlap with East Coast working hours, or based in Zurich, Switzerland. Regular collaboration with engineering teams and periodic hands-on laboratory work are essential. Travel is approximately 5–10% (4–6 trips annually) for engineering collaboration, key customer milestones, and company retreats.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience developing embedded software in accordance with IEC 62304 and strong understanding of software lifecycle processes, requirements management, architecture, risk controls, traceability, verification, and release documentation.
  • Ability to establish, own, and continuously improve a practical, scalable software development lifecycle for a growing medical technology company.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex embedded software development, including independently driving architecture, implementation, hardware integration, verification, and production release.
  • Experience delivering embedded firmware in commercial products and collaborating effectively across engineering disciplines.
  • Strong embedded C and firmware architecture skills, including resource-constrained MCUs, RTOS-based and bare-metal systems, peripheral interfaces, and clear, maintainable, testable production code.
  • Strong practical electronics knowledge and hands-on hardware–software integration experience, including board bring-up, schematic interpretation, and debugging complex interactions between firmware and electronics.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and firmware debuggers to resolve system-level issues.
  • Strong verification, documentation, and communication skills, including developing software tests, explaining technical decisions, and maintaining clear development records.
  • Comfort moving between coding, laboratory work, and lifecycle activities in a growing company, while helping establish effective engineering practices and standards.
  • High-drive, self-motivated ownership and ability to manage tasks with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills, with a data-driven approach to problem solving and decision-making.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, able to maintain high-quality work and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Collaborative, clear communicator with a team-first mentality.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to welcome feedback and continuously improve.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with power electronics, closed-loop control, or wireless power-transfer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own embedded software development across product platforms from requirements and architecture through implementation, verification, and release.
  • Shape firmware architecture and technical direction, establishing scalable and maintainable software designs.
  • Establish and own internal IEC 62304 software development practices, including requirements management, architecture, risk controls, traceability, verification, and release documentation.
  • Build internal software development expertise and reduce reliance on external development resources while maintaining technical and regulatory rigor.
  • Own software safety requirements and risk controls supporting IEC 60601 compliance, implementing protective measures and verifying system responses to faults.
  • Develop and refine production firmware, including drivers, hardware interfaces, communications, and charging functions.
  • Integrate new charging capabilities into robust, testable product firmware in collaboration with controls and electrical engineering teams.
  • Perform hands-on hardware and firmware integration and debugging, using schematics and laboratory tools to identify root causes and resolve system performance issues.
  • Define and implement software verification strategies, develop automated regression tests, and work with the testing team to verify requirements.
  • Create clear technical documentation and maintain traceability between design decisions, requirements, implementation, and verification.
  • Bring new features from concept through release, balancing technical tradeoffs and validating work on real hardware.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture and code reviews, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration while remaining involved in implementation and debugging.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and stock options.
  • Paid holidays, including a week off at new year, and an unlimited vacation policy.
  • Generous medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) retirement plan and company match.
  • Paid parental and family leave.
  • Professional development through conferences, courses, mentorship, and other learning programs.
