About The Position

We are seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to help define the electrical power system architecture across our autonomous platform. You will bring deep experience on power distribution in the 10kW range and lower, DC/DC converters, battery management to a large robotic platform. You should have strong technical judgment, and the ability to make high-stakes design decisions under uncertainty. You'll own critical technology decisions that span multiple products and generations, from power delivery, power conversion, and BLDC actuation. You'll lead flagship development efforts with significant business impact, build key supplier and technology partnerships, and evaluate emerging technologies to drive capability differentiation. You'll operate with near-complete autonomy, make strategic technical decisions that shape our 2–4 year roadmap, and help build the engineering culture.

Requirements

  • BS + 8 years of hands-on hardware experience with demonstrated system ownership and technical leadership (MS + 6 years, PhD + 3 years)
  • The ability to design at a product-system level and can drive designs to the component level.
  • Power expert across the electrical engineering domain with deep specialization in critical areas (Power system architecture, Motor controller inverter design, DC/DC regulator integration, power management, and FCC compliance).
  • Expert-level knowledge of power components, power system
  • Comprehensive understanding of platform strategy, applications, and technology roadmap
  • Deep knowledge of safety-critical system design, environmental hardening, and field reliability
  • Experience taking hardware from prototype to production at scale and passing FCC/UL/TUV certifications
  • Comfortable making critical decisions under significant uncertainty
  • Clear communicator who can explain tradeoffs and decisions without ego
  • Energized by building teams and developing future technical leaders
  • Shipped products within the power range of 10kW and less
  • Power system design, power Integrity, EMI mitigation, and filter design
  • Motor inverter design and general DCDC conversion
  • PCB design, schematic capture, and layout (Altium)
  • Hands-on board bring-up, debugging, and validation
  • Powering ARM processors and microcontrollers
  • Interfaces such as USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, LVDS, etc.
  • Firmware bring-up and hardware/firmware integration
  • Cost optimization, design for manufacturability, and endurance maximization

Nice To Haves

  • Robotics, automotive, or autonomous systems experience
  • Knowledge of battery technologies and battery management
  • You've shipped hardware that had to survive outside the lab

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical power architecture, in the 10KW range, and strategy across the product portfolio. This includes owning critical technology decisions affecting multiple products and generations.
  • Architect and own the electrical power systems from concept through production; spanning power system, motor control, and designing to mitigate EMI
  • Drive cross-functional integration by defining clear electrical requirements and interfaces, aligning constraints, and managing technical tradeoffs across teams
  • Lead flagship product development efforts, making system-level tradeoffs across performance, reliability, safety, cost, and timeline
  • Build and iterate on PCBs: schematic capture, layout, design reviews, bring-up, validation, and manufacturing release
  • Design for real-world deployment: power delivery, EMI/EMC, ESD, thermal management, vibration, environmental hardening, manufacturability, and serviceability
  • Design with reliability in mind: redundancy architectures, fault detection, graceful degradation, and endurance maximization
  • Define or co-develop board and system-level operation with the firmware team
  • Develop key supplier relationships and technology partnerships for motors, sensors, batteries, and compute platforms
  • Support manufacturing bring-up and work directly with contract manufacturers
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and develop their technical leadership; recruit and evaluate engineering talent
  • Shape team technical culture, lead critical cross-functional initiatives, and build technical community across the organization
