About The Position

CSI Recruiting is working with a privately owned exploration and production company focused on underdeveloped onshore U.S. oil and gas basins. Founded over 20 years ago, the client is a small, highly effective organization with a strong capital structure. The ownership team supports growth and champions new projects, and new hires can expect a dynamic, agile environment with opportunities to directly affect exploration and development activities. The Staff Drilling Engineer provides drilling engineering and operational support for drilling programs and plans and delivers detailed drilling projects. The company’s assets include conventional and unconventional resource plays, so the role calls for comprehensive knowledge of horizontal drilling design and operations across diverse domestic onshore oil and gas plays. This is an in-office, Monday-through-Friday position with field travel as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or another engineering discipline.
  • 8 to 15 years of hands-on drilling engineering and operations experience, including prior horizontal, field development, and exploration drilling project work.
  • Horizontal drilling experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of drilling hazards and mitigation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Develop project scope, well designs, and cost estimates in early project stages.
  • Prepare final well designs and drilling programs for exploration, delineation, and development wells, including rig selection criteria, casing and drill-string designs, mud and cement programs, wellbore evaluation programs, and well-control procedures.
  • Work closely with geoscientists, completion engineers, production operations, regulatory analysts, and reservoir engineers.
  • Monitor real-time and post-well costs and verify and approve wells.
  • Keep senior management informed of progress and incidents, and consult on higher-risk problems and projects.
  • Liaise with drilling superintendents on program preparation, execution, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and forward planning.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with on-site supervisors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Design wells in support of field development.
