Staff (Director), AI Product Management (Global Functions)

GSK•Boston, MA
•$156,000 - $286,000

About The Position

GSK's Enterprise AI team translates AI into measurable impact across major business groups. The role owns a major portion of the Global Functions portfolio, spanning HR, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Finance, and Corporate Communications. As a senior individual contributor, the position identifies and shapes valuable AI opportunities, builds funding and deployment cases, prototypes solutions, and helps ensure engineering teams focus on the highest-priority work. The role does not manage engineers; it sets direction for what they build and how results are measured. The position partners closely with forward-deployed, full-stack, and data engineering leads to translate ambiguous business needs into scoped engagements, prototypes, measurable success criteria, and scaling plans. It also develops executive and business alignment, secures the data access and change-management support needed for success, and ensures that AI solutions are designed for safe deployment within functional and regulatory constraints. The role measures value realization, learns from post-mortems, and feeds findings into portfolio and engagement practices.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of professional experience across some combination of pharma or life sciences, AI/ML product strategy, and product management or strategy roles in technology-led organizations.
  • Track record of taking at least one technology or AI initiative from problem framing through funding and into delivery.
  • Direct involvement in, or close partnership with, at least one Global Function—Legal and Compliance, HR, Finance, Corporate Communications, or Procurement—including its core end-to-end processes.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI/ML concepts, including LLMs, agentic systems, digital workers, the ML lifecycle, and data and evaluation patterns, demonstrated through prototyping.
  • Experience as an individual contributor without direct reports, influencing engineering and business teams through frameworks and documented decision criteria.
  • Product management or product strategy background, including opportunity sizing, roadmap development, prototyping, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise systems and data used by Global Functions, such as SAP, Workday, Ariba or Coupa, contract lifecycle management tools, and case management or knowledge tools, including data ownership, quality, permissioning, and unstructured documents and text.
  • Track record of identifying AI value in high-volume, knowledge-intensive work such as review, drafting, triage, reconciliation, monitoring, or query handling.
  • Working knowledge of control and regulatory constraints on AI in functional work, including SOX and financial controls, legal privilege and confidentiality, employee data privacy and works councils, anti-bribery and third-party due diligence, disclosure obligations, and EU AI Act high-risk categories.
  • Direct involvement in partnering with senior functional leaders, such as the CFO, CHRO, General Counsel, Chief Procurement Officer, or Chief Communications Officer, to turn transformation priorities into funded, measurable AI programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working across more than one Global Function.
  • Experience navigating GxP, regulatory, and data-governance requirements in pharma AI deployments.
  • Experience codifying product management and user research practices into AI-native tools, such as skills, plugins, and markdown files, and using the command line to automate daily work.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and rank high-value AI opportunities across Global Functions processes, including record-to-report, hire-to-retire, source-to-pay, contract-to-signature, and message development and approval.
  • Build rigorous business cases that quantify value through measures such as cycle time, cost-to-serve, risk reduction, hours returned, and spend under management.
  • Develop understanding of functional workflows across shared services, centers of expertise, and business partners to identify AI opportunities.
  • Maintain a portfolio view of in-flight, queued, and de-prioritized opportunities, documenting decision rationales and contributing to the broader Enterprise AI portfolio.
  • Recommend trade-offs, define success metrics, analyze options, and advise how engineering resources should be allocated when sponsors compete.
  • Challenge opportunities that are unlikely to produce scalable outcomes and protect engineering focus.
  • Partner with forward-deployed, full-stack, and data engineering leads to turn business problems into clear problem statements, prototypes, success metrics, and decision frameworks.
  • Shape engagements end-to-end by defining scope, success criteria, exit conditions, and scaling pathways, and remain involved as engineering teams execute.
  • Identify opportunities to reuse solutions or develop platform capabilities, and work with engineering teams to make the case for them.
  • Design the division of work between digital workers, engineers, and business users, including evaluation and oversight approaches.
  • Build applicable controls and requirements into AI solutions, including SOX and financial controls, legal privilege and confidentiality, employee data privacy and works council requirements, anti-bribery and third-party due diligence, disclosure obligations, and EU AI Act high-risk requirements.
  • Engage VP-level business and functional leaders to translate priorities into concrete, fundable AI engagements across functions with differing cultures and risk appetites.
  • Build sponsor coalitions and secure data access, change-management commitment, and executive support.
  • Communicate impact in terms that connect AI work to patients, science, and enterprise outcomes.
  • Apply and improve Enterprise AI's value-realization framework to measure engagements.
  • Conduct post-mortems and feed lessons into opportunity selection and engagement design.
