Responsibilities: Responsible for the development, coordination, administration, dataecords management, and evaluation of divisional development matters, including training and staff recognition. Develops and coordinates annual training program and identifies methods for improving effectiveness of training and other staff development activities. Coordinates department staff development resources, materials, and budgets. Serves as departmental liaison to other divisions/disciplines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops and implements a staff development program, including an annual training program that supports the divisional mission, values, annual goals, specific departmental skills, and staff development needs. Focuses training program on five major components: (1) Orientation of new employees to divisional mission, values, and programs and to the University in general, (2) Customer service and relations, (3) Supervisory training, (4) Leadership training, (5) All areas of technical skills improvement. Coordinates divisional development resources, materials, and budgets. Uses internal resources and other external training resources. Develops and implements effective “train the trainer” methods. Develops polices and procedures for implementation of employee skill audits to support a competency-based, career path training program. Applies state-of-the-art concepts and techniques to design, create, implement, and evaluate competency-based orientation, education, and training in support of divisional development programs. Modifies existing programs to meet competency-based standards, diverse customer needs, and current market trends. Utilizes effective customer specific education and training methods, including individual coaching, group instruction, demonstration, conferences, meetings, workshops, and computer-assisted instruction. Manages completion of skill assessments and meets individually with employees to discuss career path options and requirements for career advancement. Ensures staff development review is part of the employee performance evaluation process. Supports all levels of divisional management to assess staff development and training needs and implements subsequent programming. Works closely with directors and managers to ensure staff development and training activities support organizational operating requirements, goals, and objectives. Continuously assesses quality of the staff development program to ensure its effective integration with divisional program needs in the five major areas noted above. Measures the “transfer of training” to the workplace to assess the effectiveness of training. Collaborates with divisional leadership for effective maintenance of training and recognition records. Manages records to ensure they are easily accessible via computer information management systems to department directors and supervisors. Assists leadership in implementing alternative models of performance assessment. Performs management analyses and special projects. Carries out research and prepares analytical studies and reports and makes recommendations related to human resources staff development, training programs, and policy. Responds to tasks and inquiries on behalf of the divisional leadership. Coordinates activities within the division and department heads. Leads internal divisional staff development advisory committee. Actively seeks internal feedback about quality of the staff development program and develops plans for continuous improvement. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
