Staff Design Engineer, Structural
About The Position
At Contech Engineered Solutions, the Structural Engineering team develops engineering solutions for short- to medium-span bridges on a national scale. The team includes professionals from Engineering, CAD, Sales, and Operations and works with sales personnel, consulting engineers, contractors, and customers to promote, install, and evaluate bridge products. The Staff Design Engineer, Structural collaborates with Engineering and CAD teams to prepare engineering and drawing submittals for customers. The role supports integration of Contech products—particularly precast concrete bridge products—into site plans, including preparing engineering drawings and calculations, reviewing project plans, developing project solutions, and providing technical advice. It also involves structural analysis and design, coordination with sales and manufacturing teams, specification work, and development of technical papers and product literature. The engineer maintains civil and structural engineering knowledge and certifications and attends industry trade shows, continuing education courses, and seminars as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; a Civil Engineering degree with a Structural emphasis is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working on civil engineering projects.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong team and client relationships.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Nice To Haves
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification.
- Experience with AutoCAD, finite element analysis, and/or structural analysis software.
- Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis.
Responsibilities
- Assist the field sales team with integrating Contech products, particularly precast concrete bridge products, into site plans.
- Prepare engineering drawings and calculations, review project plans, develop project solutions, and provide technical advice.
- Perform structural analysis and design of bridge elements, including superstructures, foundations, and retaining walls.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing team as needed to ensure proper fabrication of Contech products.
- Coordinate with field sales and manufacturing teams to address questions and concerns about product design, manufacture, and installation.
- Maintain working knowledge of governing specifications for Contech products and contribute to developing, writing, and modifying specifications.
- Assist with writing and developing technical papers and product literature to support, promote, and train stakeholders on Contech products.
- Maintain knowledge and certifications in civil and structural engineering and attend relevant trade shows, continuing education courses, and seminars as needed.
