About The Position

Visa is seeking an experienced NoSQL and DB2 on premises and Public Cloud Database Engineer to join their DB Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing database systems in both on premise and public cloud environments. This role involves ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of databases, including Db2 and various NoSQL databases. As a Staff Database Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our database infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, solve complex problems, and contribute to the success of our global payment network. Your expertise in NoSQL (Cassandra or Redis Valkey) and DB2 technologies will be instrumental in driving innovation and ensuring the reliability and performance of our database systems. This role will contribute to the design and architecture, solution engineering, and L3 support. You will be responsible for delivering database projects, performing problem analysis, and troubleshooting. Additionally, you will deploy and manage database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, utilizing cloud-native tools and services to enhance database performance and reliability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 7-10 years of DBA experience, generally with DB2 LUW and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficiency with NoSQL databases like Cassandra or Redis Valkey.
  • Experience with public cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong knowledge and extensive experience with DB2 UDB RDBMS technologies, Cassandra and Public cloud NoSQL databases.
  • Sound knowledge of all UNIX and DB2 UDB utilities.
  • Troubleshoot database performance problems and database issues.
  • Strong UNIX platform skills and understanding of network, storage, tiered application environments and security.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL procedures, functions and packages for administration and application support and experience with Q replication, Range partitioned tables, Hash partitioned tables, Replicated MQT and MDC.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, scripting languages, data modeling and business intelligence tools.
  • Good interpersonal skills along with effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex systems and database environment issues.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a complex organization to determine business and customer needs, providing the best solution to meet those needs.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
  • Sound knowledge of NoSQL technologies like MongoDB or Cassandra is preferable.
  • Work experience in a Financial Institute will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, and managing database systems in public cloud environments, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of databases, including Db2 and various NoSQL databases.
  • Deploying and managing database instances on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, utilizing cloud-native tools and services to enhance database performance and reliability.
  • Developing and maintaining scripts for database automation tasks using Python, Ansible, or similar languages, and implementing Infrastructure as Code practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible Tower or CloudFormation.
  • Developing and implementing robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure databases are protected against data loss and can be recovered in case of failure.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies, and providing regular reports on database performance, uptime, and other key metrics.
  • Setting up and maintaining database monitoring tools to ensure database health and performance and troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Providing technical influence and subject matter expertise for the database team, tackling complex problems and identifying innovative solutions.
  • Working closely with development teams to ensure database designs align with application requirements, leading to more efficient and effective application development.
