Staff Data Scientist
About The Position
Ontra is seeking a Staff Data Scientist reporting to our Senior Manager, Data Science. For this job, we are currently only hiring candidates based in the United States. We’re looking for someone excited to harness data-driven insights, collaborate closely with product GM/VP, and strategically influence product development and business outcomes. If you are an experienced data scientist with a knack for measurement architecture, possess strong product and business judgment, excel in executive storytelling, and have a proven track record of bar-raising influence, all while being self-directed in ambiguous environments, we’d love to get to know you!
Requirements
- 8+ years in data science, analytics, or applied quantitative work, with at least 2 years at a Senior or higher level.
- Expertise in advanced SQL and fluency in Python or R for conducting analytical workflows.
- Proven ability to drive measurable outcomes on products using data, including setting metric frameworks such as north star metrics, funnels, and guardrails.
- Demonstrated ability to present to and influence stakeholders at the VP level or higher.
- Experience in enhancing the capabilities of the broader data team.
Nice To Haves
- Strong preference for tech lead or manager experience.
- Tech lead experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product GM/VP to harness data-driven insights for enhancing business outcomes and shaping the product's strategic direction.
- Conduct in-depth analysis to inform and influence the product roadmap, ensuring decisions are grounded in solid data insights.
- Work closely with the VP of Product to align data science initiatives with strategic product goals and objectives.
- Develop and deliver compelling data narratives to executive teams to effectively communicate findings and drive decision-making.
- Guide and mentor team members, fostering a learning environment and continuously raising the standard for the data team.
