About The Position

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining predictive models to power Pura's product, business intelligence, and decision-making. You will be responsible for prototyping and then building production-ready models that can be integrated into Pura’s software systems. The ideal candidate is passionate about leading complex data science initiatives when faced with ambiguous problems. They can take open-ended business questions and turn them into well-defined analyses, models, and experimentation plans that deliver real impact. They also drive projects end to end — from data acquisition and validation through feature engineering and the development of reusable data assets — all while maintaining high standards for data quality and integrity. Strong communication skills are essential to explain technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data science or a related field
  • Expert SQL and Python proficiency
  • Strong background in causal inference statistics
  • Experience with A/B testing frameworks and experimental design
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery)
  • Experience building batch-style inference workflows
  • Experience with containerization and Infrastructure as Code
  • Track record of leveraging LLMs to streamline exploration, iteration, and communication of data-driven insights
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data quality and reliability
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with real-time or near-real-time inference systems
  • Familiarity with streaming data processing technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka)
  • Experience applying data science to molecular or chemical data

Responsibilities
