About The Position

The Staff Data Scientist will leverage data science methodologies, data engineering techniques, and strong coding skills to deliver actionable insights that support strategic business decisions. This role involves identifying and sourcing relevant data, developing and validating predictive models, and creating compelling data visualizations to communicate findings effectively. The position requires collaboration across functions to translate complex business challenges into data-driven solutions, ensuring model deployment and scalability, and building scalable platforms. The ideal candidate will apply rigorous statistical methods, automation, and machine learning expertise to enhance data strategy and drive continuous improvement aligned with organizational goals. Join the personalization marketing data science team at Walmart, collaborating with engineering, business, and product teams across digital marketing channels including SEM, SEO, CRM, and Display. The team develops scalable, data-driven solutions to optimize marketing effectiveness and generate high-quality demand efficiently. Members analyze extensive omni-channel commerce data to build models and algorithms that support business growth. Working alongside skilled data scientists, engineers, marketers, and product managers, the team creates advanced marketing science platforms that enhance strategies and deliver actionable insights across the organization.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in predictive analytics, machine learning algorithms, and statistical hypothesis testing
  • Proficiency in Python programming and data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, or Tableau
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering, data pipelines, and MLOps for scalable model deployment
  • Experience in data source identification, data quality assessment, and data strategy implementation
  • Ability to develop, validate, and tune advanced analytical models using appropriate evaluation metrics
  • Skilled in translating complex business problems into data-driven solutions with clear communication
  • Familiarity with experimentation design, statistical inference, and automation techniques in data science
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field
  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics related field
  • 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field

  • Utilize cutting-edge machine learning/statistical/platform building techniques to deliver solutions for projects in the domain of marketing science and personalization
  • Design statistically sound experiments to properly evaluate the effectiveness
  • Build, validate, test and deploy predictive models using machine learning techniques to explain or predict customer behaviors
  • Mine massive data, derive business insights, and propose interesting modeling projects that have the potential to have high business impact
  • Standardize and build scalable and highly available systems that follow operational best practices
  • Developing visuals and reports to efficiently communicating model results and insights to business teams
  • Mentor Junior team members
