About The Position

As a Staff Data Scientist - Vision AI within GE Vernova Power's DSAI team, you will be a critical technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced computer vision solutions in Roboflow, a commercial SaaS (Software as a Service) Vision AI platform, that tackles complex challenges in the power generation industry. You will leverage your expertise in deep learning, image processing, and AI to derive actionable insights from visual data, contributing directly to predictive maintenance, quality control, asset integrity, and operational excellence. This role requires not only deep technical proficiency but also the ability to lead projects, mentor junior team members, and drive the adoption of best practices in Vision AI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in quantitative fields such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in Data Science or Machine Learning, with at least 3 years focused specifically on Computer Vision.
  • Proven expertise in deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with relevant libraries (e.g., OpenCV, scikit-image, NumPy, Pandas).
  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end computer vision project delivery in a production environment.
  • Direct experience with data annotation platforms and processes, specifically including Roboflow for dataset management, annotation, and augmentation .
  • Solid understanding and hands-on experience with Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) tailored for image and video data, including techniques for identifying data quality issues, biases, and relevant features.
  • Expertise in various data tagging and annotation strategies for object detection, segmentation, and classification tasks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) for model development, training, and deployment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex problems and develop practical, innovative solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and collaborating across diverse teams.
  • Has export control clearance to work on Nuclear projects

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MLOps practices and tools for computer vision models.
  • Domain knowledge in industrial applications, power generation, energy, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with various data types beyond images/video (e.g., time series, sensor data).
  • Publications in top-tier conferences or journals in computer vision or machine learning.
  • Experience with edge AI deployments or embedded vision systems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the end-to-end lifecycle of computer vision projects, from problem definition, data acquisition, and model development to deployment and monitoring in production environments.
  • Design, implement, and optimize state-of-the-art deep learning models for various computer vision tasks such as object detection, image classification, segmentation, tracking, and anomaly detection in industrial settings.
  • Develop strategies for efficient data collection, organization, and annotation of large-scale image and video datasets. Expertise in tools like Roboflow for dataset management, annotation, and model iteration is highly valued.
  • Conduct thorough EDA for visual data to understand patterns, identify biases, and inform model development, ensuring data quality and relevance for industrial applications.
  • Oversee and contribute to the meticulous tagging and annotation of visual data, ensuring high-quality ground truth for model training and validation.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in computer vision, deep learning, and AI research, and proactively identify opportunities to apply new techniques to GE Vernova's challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence within the team.
  • Ensure the robustness, scalability, and reliability of developed computer vision models and pipelines, optimizing performance on various computing environments (edge, cloud).
  • Clearly document methodologies, code, and results, and effectively communicate complex technical concepts and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
