You'll operate at petabyte scale, set the technical direction for a portfolio of data products, and multiply the impact of engineers and data scientists across multiple teams — driving architecture, quality, and long-term platform health rather than individual features. The Membership Experience Engineering team at Walmart develops scalable, reliable technology to enhance shopping journeys for millions globally. Collaborating across functions, members drive innovation through iterative development, code review, and continuous improvement. Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data engineering, including data integration, transformation, and pipeline development using ETL and streaming techniques.
  • Understanding of data governance, quality standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and data integrity.
  • 4+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with data platforms and technologies such as Airflow, GCP, BigQuery, Hive, and Presto.
  • Experience building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark, Flink, or Beam.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, storage systems, and distributed architectures.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related field.
  • OR Master's degree in Computer Science and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 3 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

Nice To Haves

  • Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics, ETL tools and working with large data sets in the cloud.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Own architecture for large-scale streaming data.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting batch and real-time workloads.
  • Develop robust ingestion, transformation, and orchestration frameworks for structured and unstructured data.
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, observability, and governance.
  • Build self-service platform capabilities that improve developer productivity.
  • Improve platform reliability through observability, alerting, and automated remediation.
  • Support data scientists, analysts, and product teams by providing scalable infrastructure and trusted data assets.
  • Partner with AI and product teams to operationalize machine learning and generative AI solutions.
  • Optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering standards across teams.
