Staff Cybersecurity Software Engineer - Authorization Services

General Motors•Austin, MI
•$160,200 - $246,300•Remote

About The Position

This staff-level individual contributor role sits within the Platform Security Engineering pillar of GM’s Security Services organization. The engineer is an application-layer security expert responsible for designing, building, and operating production-critical authorization services. They will lead delivery of strategic authorization capabilities, raise engineering standards for authentication and authorization, and help define how users and systems sign in and what they are permitted to do. The role shapes technology direction, mentors engineers, and partners with managers to deliver secure, reliable, and operable security products across the organization. It is an execution-focused role in which influence is earned through technical credibility, mentorship, and leadership by example. The role includes designing and implementing authorization frameworks, access-control systems, and policy-driven distributed authorization solutions; developing and operating cloud-native microservices and APIs; and establishing technical direction for how services are built, deployed, and operated on public cloud platforms. The engineer also leads security reviews, creates reusable engineering guidance and guardrails, defines service observability, manages data models and storage, and supports critical production systems through an on-call rotation. The role is based remotely. Candidates who live within a specified radius of a GM hub may be expected to report to that location three times a week or at another frequency directed by their manager. Relocation benefits are available to eligible candidates under company policy. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
