About The Position

In general, the duties expected of a staff counselor are to contribute to the mission of the Counseling & Psychological Services Center by participating in all areas of service delivery.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field
eligibility for appropriate licensure in North Carolina
maintain licensure for the continuation of the appointment

Experience in a university counseling center with a student affairs perspective
Demonstrated interest, skill, and experience in providing clinical services and outreach programming to student populations who may be less likely to seek counseling
Interest and experience in using a variety of methods for engaging students to support their mental health, such as innovative outreach and development of self-help resources
Committed to a proactive student development perspective involving an active relationship with the campus community
Demonstrated skills and interest in working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities
Team-oriented and collaborative with students, colleagues, and university staff
Broad generalist clinical skills in assessing and intervening with a wide range of disorders, concerns, and degrees of pathology

Responsibilities

short-term individual and couples therapy
group therapy
psychological assessment
crisis intervention
consultation
outreach and psychoeducational workshops (sometimes after hours)
case management as needed
liaison/consultant relationships with university partners
rotating after hours emergency/crisis on call responsibilities as back-up to ProtoCall
administrative duties and roles based on interest / experience and the needs of the Counseling Center
