About The Position

The Staff Cost Accountant supports Novanta’s month-end close process and cost accounting function. The role prepares journal entries, reconciles inventory, analyzes excess and obsolete inventory, closes manufacturing work orders, and coordinates recurring review meetings with cross-functional stakeholders. It requires attention to detail, familiarity with cost accounting principles, and collaboration with operations, finance, and supply chain teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
1–3 years of accounting experience.
Working knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, and month-end close processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Oracle ERP experience required.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple deadlines.

Accounting experience in a manufacturing or cost accounting environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare and book journal entries for the month-end close in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations and identify and resolve discrepancies between physical counts, system records, and general ledger balances.
Prepare the excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory analysis template, evaluate inventory aging, and recommend reserve adjustments.
Review and close completed manufacturing work orders, ensuring costs are properly relieved and variances are analyzed and recorded.
Schedule and facilitate recurring stakeholder review meetings to discuss inventory, cost variances, and close-related items.
Support other month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities as needed.
Assist with internal and external audit requests related to cost accounting and inventory.
Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes and internal controls.
