Position Summary The Staff CDN Engineer is a highly experienced, hands-on technical leader responsible for enterprise content delivery, edge computing, web performance, DNS, traffic management, and application security solutions. This role defines architecture and engineering standards, builds reusable automation and self-service capabilities, and partners across application, infrastructure, cloud, network, and security teams. The engineer also provides operational ownership by participating in on-call support, leading response to critical production incidents, supporting business-critical releases, and driving root-cause remediation and long-term service improvements. Through direct engineering contribution, technical influence, and mentorship, this role advances platform reliability, performance, security, scalability, and operational readiness.

Requirements

7+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting enterprise CDN(Akamai), edge-delivery, web-performance, DNS, network-delivery, or closely related solutions, with deep knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, caching, routing, traffic steering, origin connectivity, and application performance.
Strong software engineering and automation experience using languages such as Python, Go, or Node.js, together with Infrastructure as Code, APIs, Git-based development, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, configuration deployment, reusable tooling, and self-service platform capabilities.
Demonstrated experience leading complex production incidents and technical investigations, including prioritizing urgent operational demands, coordinating cross-functional responders, restoring service, communicating during escalations, performing root-cause analysis, and driving durable corrective actions.
Proven ability to define reference architectures and engineering standards, lead complex technical initiatives through direct contribution and influence, and collaborate effectively across application, cloud, network, infrastructure, security, platform, and vendor teams.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills, with an ownership mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities and drive complex issues to resolution.
Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and support scheduled production changes, incident response, and business-critical release activities outside standard working hours, including evening or nighttime windows when required.

Nice To Haves

Advanced hands-on experience with enterprise Akamai implementations, including relevant capabilities such as Property Manager, Edge DNS, Global Traffic Management, Web Application Firewall, Bot Manager, EdgeWorkers, API Acceleration, and Enterprise Application Access.
Experience designing reusable, enterprise-scale CDN solutions that support multiple application teams, business units, or cloud environments.
Experience creating enterprise-scale CDN automation and self-service capabilities using Terraform modules, GitOps workflows, APIs, CI/CD integrations, configuration validation, policy enforcement, automated testing, compliance checks, and remediation.
Experience with real-user monitoring, synthetic testing, CDN telemetry, log and traffic analytics, application performance monitoring, service-level objectives, reliability indicators, operational health metrics, and error-budget-based engineering practices.
Experience integrating CDN and edge platforms with multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud, or enterprise application environments, including edge-security controls, web application protection, bot mitigation, API security, and zero-trust access patterns.
Experience leading platform modernization or operational-simplification programs and mentoring experienced engineers through standards, workshops, coaching, and reusable guidance; relevant CDN, cloud, networking, security, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure-automation certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

Define and evolve enterprise CDN and edge-delivery architectures, engineering standards, and reusable design patterns; build APIs, Infrastructure as Code modules, GitOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service capabilities that standardize onboarding, deployment, configuration, validation, governance, and lifecycle management while reducing operational risk and recurring manual effort.
Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for CDN(Akamai), edge delivery, web performance, DNS, TLS, caching, routing, traffic management, and application security; lead architecture and design reviews, align cross-functional teams, resolve technical dependencies, and contribute hands-on engineering to complex customer-facing and platform initiatives.
Lead advanced analysis and troubleshooting across CDN, DNS, TLS, routing, caching, traffic steering, edge-to-origin connectivity, application delivery, and web performance; use monitoring, testing, logs, telemetry, and traffic analytics to improve service health, latency, cache efficiency, and proactive remediation.
Provide hands-on operational support through participation in an on-call rotation, leadership during high-priority production incidents, and support for scheduled evening or nighttime releases when required; coordinate service restoration, communicate during escalations, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, design discussions, incident investigations, code reviews, workshops, and hands-on collaboration; create reusable guidance and promote disciplined operational readiness, service ownership, and continuous improvement.
Set the long-term technical direction and modernization roadmap for enterprise CDN, DNS, traffic management, and edge-security platforms while balancing transformation with production stability, business-critical delivery, and ongoing support responsibilities.
